Join us this Wednesday for an amazing dinner at Seven Acres in Paoli! There’ll also be an optional farm tour beforehand if you want to see the land and meet some of the animals. Their dinner series have been incredible in our experience, and we’re excited to see how they feature our farm and pair it with some local craft beer! We hope to see you there!
Farmers Carly and Jacob welcome everyone for a tour of Green Fire Farm, before a dinner with One Barrel Brewing at Seven Acre.

Three legged love! ❤️ After a weekend of turkey deliveries we ended the busiest time of the year by driving another six hours to Indiana. Why? Well today we brought our three legged miracle calf Champion to his new forever home at , and animal sanctuary in Hobart. When Champion was born Jacob told the tiny little calf “If you can walk, we’ll make it work out for you” and sure enough after a few days of helping him get his balance Jacob got him walking on all three legs. Jim taught him to nurse and he took off growing;it’s been almost two years since then! But Champion had trouble keeping up with our herd this summer, and knowing cattle don’t like living alone or being left behind I started reaching out to animal sanctuaries so Champion could live out the rest of his life. I never would have imagined that would be with another three legged cow! Sky and Champ hit it off straight away. Lots of sniffing and nose to nose hellos! It was hard parting with my one and only “pet” cow but I know he’ll have more fun being with his new herd and in a smaller pasture with less walking. Erin even mentioned getting him a prosthetic just like his friend. I just wanted to share this little bit of happy news for our farm, family, and Champion. ❤️☺️

A beautiful start to the 2021 grazing season for Green Fire Farm! 🌈

Hi all! We don’t use Facebook as much as we do Instagram for farm photos! Nothing against Facebook, just the way it goes I suppose. If you’d like to see the farm more, cute animal photos, or just what we’re up to, give us a follow at
When I (Jacob) was researching and considering grazing while still studying at UW-Stevens Point I was lucky enough to hear about Bert Paris' grass-based farm (and that it was close to home). Bert showed me his operation and served as a mentor as I got started in grazing. I was even lucky enough to help out at the farm for a couple of years.
Check out this highlighting Bert's philosophy towards farming, which is very similar to our own at Green Fire Farm!

Jacob was featured in his alumni (UWSP) publication, check it out!
Jacob Marty '14 never thought he would become a farmer but once he started studying wildlife ecology at UW-Stevens Point, he was curious about how the ecology practices he was learning about could be incorporated in the agricultural community.
After graduation, Jacob started working on his family's farm, Green Fire Farm, which has been worked by the Martys for six generations. Green Fire Farm adheres to the principles of regenerative farming, which "place an emphasis on natural, ecologically sound practices of land and livestock management." 🐮🐷

"We reached the old wolf in time to watch a fierce green fire dying in her eyes. I realized then, and have known ever since, that there was something new to me in those eyes-something known only to her and to the mountain. I was young then, and full of trigger-itch; I thought that because fewer wolves meant more deer, that no wolves would mean hunters' paradise. But after seeing the green fire die, I sensed that neither the wolf nor the mountain agreed with such a view."
Green Fire Farm LLC, established in 2015, is a new regenerative farming venture led by a father-son team of Jim and Jacob Marty. Located 30 miles south of Madison, the farm fills a beautiful valley in Green County, home of America's Little Switzerland and Spotted Cow, New Glarus, and America's Swiss Cheese Capital, Monroe. Six generations, dating back to the 1850's, have stewarded this land.
Green Fire Farm focuses on agricultural and lifestyle practices that regenerate and build soil, sequester carbon, and enhance the health of the local water, air, and nutrient cycles by observing and replicating naturally occurring patterns. Livestock are managed in ways that mimic their natural history and behavior. This results in healthy and happy animals that produce high quality meat in the process.
Along with livestock, perennial silvopasture plants like apples, chestnuts, mulberries, pecans, mushrooms, and many other fruits and nuts are being established to recreate a resilient and robust agro-ecosytem while providing food for human consumption and forage for livestock.
In 2015, we started by converting a 50-acre monoculture corn field into a perennial, polyculture pasture. In spring, we bought cattle from a retiring grazer in WI, fenced in the new pasture, laid water lines, and we were on our way! Hogs and laying hens were reintroduced to the farm for the first time in decades. The beginnings of a silvopasture took root, with the initial planting of about 300 fruit and nut trees, including chestnuts, persimmons, pecans, redbuds, and others.
In 2016, we expanded, converting an additional 40 acres of corn and soybean fields to pasture. Our cattle herd grew by 50% and our pig herd increased four fold. A flock of 100+ baby chicks were reared for laying. All animals were set out on pasture and rotated accordingly. We also expanded our silvopasture by planting 1000 fruit shrubs to provide pollinator habitat for our honey bees, the butterflies, and insects.
In 2017, the farm converted another 160 acres of corn and soybean into pasture and grew to include sheep, ducks, meat chickens, and turkeys, all of whom, joined the rest of the menagerie in pasture rotation.
We look forward to the new adventures each day brings on the farm! As 2018 rolls underway, we look forward to new possibilities and opportunities to better our farm, community, and selves.
