Windy Willows Farm School

Windy Willows Farm School We believe in raising kind, curious, & capable children—rooted in nature and love.

Our farm school offers a home-like environment where children grow through outdoor hands-on play, meaningful connections, and a deep respect for the natural world.

I’ll never be one to wish away summer, but boy I am ready for mosquito and poison ivy free days so we can get back to our forest adventures 🤍

You really never know what the day is going to bring at Windy Willows 😂🌿

Lou took a day off during the week to work on some of the damage from all the water we got last Sunday, and while he was down by the pond, he found this poor snapping turtle. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it in the storm😢

So of course, Lou brought him up and we had a little impromptu science lesson! We checked him out, talked about snapping turtles, and brave little Sophia even knocked on his shell! 😂🐢

Don’t worry, we washed our hands REALLY well afterward! 😂

This is one of my favorite things about Windy Willows. You really just never know what the day is going to bring, and sometimes the best learning opportunities are the ones you never planned for! 🤎🌿

🌿✨ In our farm school era✨🌿

The past couple of weeks have been full of learning, exploring, and making memories. Last week we wrapped up Letter X by creating our own X-rays, and this week we dove into Letter S with Shark Week! 🦈

We’ve also been busy harvesting fresh goodies from the garden—including making homemade refrigerator dill pickles—collecting fresh eggs, and welcoming the sweetest new member of the farm family, our rescue kitten, Parmesan. 🐱 She earned her name after we found her with her head stuck in a Parmesan cheese container outside! Thankfully she’s safe now and has been soaking up all the love and cuddles from the kids.

This week we learned all about the letter Y!

We talked about yolks while cracking eggs to make yummy yellow bee cupcakes, painted yellow submarines, colored yaks, danced to YMCA, and of course enjoyed some yogurt.

My favorite “Y” around here, though, is the phrase “Yes, you can” 💪

One of the biggest things I try to teach at Windy Willows is independence. I want the kids to know that they’re capable, even when something feels hard. We take our time, and I let them try. Sometimes it means shoes go on the wrong feet the first time, or it takes a few extra minutes to zip a jacket or clean up. That’s okay. Learning isn’t supposed to be rushed.

I’m always there to help, encourage, or hold a hand when we’re walking through the woods and the trail starts to feel a little long or the hill seems a little too big for little legs. But I’ve learned that if I give them the chance, they’re almost always capable of more than they think.

Watching “I can’t” slowly turn into “I did it!” never gets old.

Those little moments are where confidence grows, and they’re a good reminder for all of us that we can do hard things💛💛💛

Our first week with our new Summer Farm School friends is in the books!

I’m always a little nervous when new kiddos start. I want everything to go perfectly, and honestly, it couldn’t have gone any smoother. There were no tears (including from me 😂), and that right there is a win.

This week we learned all about the letter R! RESPECT is always something we focus on here at Windy Willows—not talking with food in our mouths, using please and thank you, waiting our turn to talk, using walking feet indoors, and being kind and respectful to each other, our toys, and our animals…but this week we really dove into it.

We made red, white and blue smoothies RICH in nutrients and even added spinach that the kiddos picked themselves. We made colorful ROOSTERS and cute little RACCOONS , caught some RIBBITS 🐸, snuggled a RABBIT(and ate some too—the Annie’s snack version, don’t worry 😆), painted ROCKS, petted the goat RUSTY and sang and played Ring Around the Rosie, Row, Row, Row Your Boat, and Rain, Rain, Go Away.

We are already looking forward to next week!
