I found cameras that are solar and pick up my Wi-Fi… I must say this is cool.
It is 4 AM and I’m checking for babies you can see in the top left. Loretta Lynn was born to Dolly Parton our number one Highland cow.
Loretta is the third calf this season of what I hope to be eight. In the top right you have Laney who is going to make Dolly a grandmother in the next night or two. Then in the bottom, right we have Sosnick. Next to her in the same frame is Emmy and Ella. Ella was born a a week ago.
We are starting to get into third generations, genetics, going back to our first cow. We lost Bobby McGee this year when she gave birth to her now namesake Bob in the bottom left corner (a bit hard to see). Bobby got asteatosis (bloat) by consuming a bunch of wet hay in the place she went to hide to give birth. We got Bobby up in Franklin County with two bull calves to start our first cow adventure. Bobby turned out to be quite the personality, all of us fell in love with her, but my Middle daughter Ivy in particular decided that she was her cow. If you know Ivy, then you understand why there’s no more discussing that decision.
Today in the picture two of the cows that are birthing come from Bobby and Bob will remain here as a Bull. If you look for him on Facebook, or on our website HeinzHillfarm.com when I get off my butt and get it updated you’ll see he has a beautiful boy…jersey/Highland mix. His big brother (named Purple- steer) is here still and is another gorgeous animal.
It’s 4:14 AM so I have six minutes to finish this, wink wink.
Waiting for the surgery is frustrating and a terrible financial burden losing so many months of income, but spending the time with the animals ….especially this middle of the night ritual… has made me grateful they’re here. I said I started this farm for the girls to learn, to enjoy, to make them strong and make them understand things that come with living on a farm good bad and the very ugly. In reality as I approach 55 in just over two weeks. This thing is about my mental health now and my continued growth. Check out the website and watch what’s going on here. I have to go by six minutes are up good morning 420 folks good morning cows.
Good morning Coos….
