WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO – Reason #3

Not all fat is created equal.

What our animals eat affects the fat that ends up on your plate.

Cattle and chickens raised on pasture and allowed to eat the diet they were designed for often produce meat and eggs with a different balance of fats than animals raised primarily on grain.

That’s one reason we prioritize healthy pastures and natural grazing.

We believe healthy animals begin with healthy soil.

And healthier food begins with healthy animals.

We honor what God created by refusing to cut corners.

So we work with nature—not against it.

That’s why we farm the way we do.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO – Reason #2

Stewardship isn’t just good farming.

It’s a biblical responsibility.

From the very beginning, God entrusted mankind with the care of His creation—not to exploit it, but to faithfully steward it.

That means the land.

The animals.

The water.

The soil.

And the people who trust us to feed their families.

Every decision we make on our farm starts with one question:

“Are we leaving God’s creation better than we found it?”

That’s why we build healthy soil.

That’s why we rotate our livestock.

That’s why we avoid synthetic chemicals

Healthy soil.
Healthy animals.
Healthy food.

We don’t believe we own this land.

We believe we’ve been entrusted with it.

That’s why we farm the way we do.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO – Reason #1

People often ask why we farm the way we do.

The answer isn’t found in a business plan. It’s found in our story.

My wife survived Stage IV cancer…twice…while still in her twenties. There was no family history, and while we’ll never know exactly why it happened, the experience changed how we think about food, health, and the responsibility we’ve been given.

It led us to choose a different path.

Today we raise our own food, farm without synthetic chemicals, and work to regenerate the land instead of depleting it. We believe healthy soil produces healthier plants, healthier animals, and healthier food.

We don’t expect everyone to agree with us.

But this is why we do what we do.

It’s not just how we farm…it’s why we farm.

Some people need therapy.

I just need a gate to slam, a bucket to carry, and a fence line full of cattle waiting for supper.

There’s something about stepping into the pasture after a long day. The worries fade, the noise quiets down, and for a few minutes it’s just you, the grass, and the animals God entrusted to your care.

Life isn’t always easy, but it’s hard to stay discouraged when these two remind you what really matters.

Both are called a tomato.

One was grown in a system focused on feeding the plant.

The other was grown in a system focused on feeding the soil.

At Dogwood Farms, we believe healthy food starts long before harvest. It starts beneath our feet with living soil full of microbes, earthworms, fungi, and organic matter.

When soil is healthy, plants can access a wider range of nutrients and beneficial compounds. That’s why regenerative farmers spend so much time building soil health through practices like rotational grazing, cover crops, compost, and reducing soil disturbance.

Our goal isn’t simply to grow food.

Our goal is to leave the land better than we found it and provide food produced the way God designed nature to work.

Healthy Soil → Healthy Plants → Healthy Animals → Healthy People

There’s something special about seeing a mama and her calf side by side at the hay feeder. 🐄❤️

No hurry. No rush. Just a quiet lesson in trust, comfort, and the simple things that matter most. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do at Dogwood Farms—raising animals the way God designed, with pasture, patience, and plenty of room to just be cattle.

Sometimes the best part of farming isn’t the work accomplished—it’s the moments shared.

Cattle aren’t the enemy. Poor land management is. Properly managed grazing builds soil, increases organic matter, improves water retention, and helps pull carbon back into the ground where it belongs. Healthy cattle on healthy pasture can be part of the solution. 🌱🐄

While the wife is away, the husband gets to enjoy the fruits of all our hard work.

There’s something different about knowing exactly where your food comes from — and even more important, knowing how it was raised. Grass-fed on healthy pasture, no shortcuts, no unnecessary additives… just real beef with the kind of rich, full flavor many of us remember growing up.

At Dogwood Farms, we believe good food starts with healthy soil, healthy animals, and a commitment to doing things the right way — not the easy way.

Faith. Family. Farm. 🌱🥩🐄
