Meet Granite Grains🌾🚜

Tyler Murray and Caroline Cavalieri grow certified organic rye, wheat, corn, and cucurbits in West Haven, Vermont. They bought the land last year from the Pettis family, who farmed dairy here for generations. Donald "Skip" and Sheila Pettis still live on the farm and enjoy lending a hand.

Despite the challenges of the Addison County clay in this region, the valley is blessed with loam soil and “lake effect climate” – long cool springs and warm falls that helps grow great grains.

Grain farming in Vermont has dwindled over the years, but it's slowly making a comeback thanks to the efforts of a younger generation of farmers like Tyler and Caroline.

Every bit of the rye that goes into Phyllis Wh***ey traces back to farms like this.

Recently 46 acres of organic rye in West Haven, VT was harvested. This rye was planted last September by Tyler Murray and Caroline Cavalieri of , two up-and-coming farmers who learned organic agronomy through the Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP) with Barr Hill by Caledonia Spirits Co-Founder, Todd Hardie Thornhill Farm.

The rye is being cleaned and dried now, heading our way shortly.

It will become Phyllis Rye Wh***ey – grown, harvested, and soon to be distilled and aged right here in Vermont.

It’s a lot of rye. And our commitment to purchase all of it means Tyler and Caroline can plant more this fall.

We commit to farmers. And farmers commit to the soil. That’s the whole point.🌾

Inspired by the Toronto cocktail, we gave it a little Green Mountain flare to celebrate our homeplace. The “Vermonter” is rich, dry, lightly bitter and full of vibrant rye spice notes.

Of course, to make it a true Vermonter – only Vermont wh***ey and maple will do.
