It was a beautiful evening to walk the pasture and check on all the mares and babies. We’re excited for what the future holds for this years foal crop by One Shiney Metallic, Cracklin Kat , and Once You Go Hick.

It’s been an exciting week! Having dove head first into collecting, artificial insemination, and ultrasound this spring has been a challenge at times and quite the learning curve. We still have a lot to learn and refine, but finding these black dots (pregnancy) on our ultrasound screen feels like a great accomplishment and we’re thankful! We’re so excited to see Clancy’s first foal crop next year!!!
Also, I’ve got to give a shoutout to Morgan at Southeast Idaho Steel for building these stocks for us! He does amazing work!

We had our last foal of the year late on May 30th and it sure didn’t disappoint. Riata gave us a beautiful buckskin (likely roan) filly by One Shiney Metallic! This one will definitely be a head turner and is sweet as can be!

Gotta love good minded brood mares! River hasn’t had a saddle on her in probably 4 yrs but I can still walk right to her in a 30 acre pasture, put on a halter, and ride her out ba****ck with her foal on her side.

Foal #4 has arrived! We were hoping for a buckskin filly and that’s exactly what we got! She’s by One Shiney Metallic and out of our good mare Lucky by PG Gunpowder. She’s already quite the mover and so friendly it’s hard to get pictures of her without her right next me 😂.

Foal #3 arrived yesterday evening! Dolly is our only maiden mare this year and she went from 0-100 real quick, showing no signs of labor to all of the sudden in labor. She was definitely a little unsure of what was going on, but delivered a great c**t by Cracklin Kat ! This guy has been a long time coming. The prior year we had planned to breed River to Cracklin and when we ordered semen fedex lost it in Memphis and we had to start her cycle over again. A couple weeks later we got her bred but she didn’t catch and at that point it was late enough in the year we decided not to try again. Later that summer we ended up buying Dolly and I knew they’d make a great cross, so last spring that’s what we did. Luckily everything went smoothly and she caught first try! Dolly is a great mare by Brother Tuff Wood who is the full brother to the legendary Woody Be Tuff! This c**t will be one talented dude!!!

River picked a blizzard and 20 degree weather to finally let her foal out on day 354! At about 7:30 we were eating dinner and watching the mares out our dining room window when she started looking at her flank and lifting her tail. There was already a good amount of snow on the ground and still coming down hard, so I ran out to take her into the barn. Within seconds of getting in the stall her water broke and she started labor! After a pretty quick, uncomplicated birth she had a big, flashy bay roan stud c**t by Once You Go Hick on the ground at 8:30! He did great and hit all the early milestones. River on the other hand retained her placenta and after 2 1/2 hrs was acting pretty uncomfortable. Luckily after 2 small doses of oxytocin and a little help she finally passed it at 1am! They are both doing great this morning, so we’re thankful!

Winter showed back up late last night and this morning. I don’t care for the colder temperatures, but I’m sure glad for the moisture! Still a little surprised the storm didn’t get us another foal on the ground 🤷🏻‍♂️
