Progress update! That shiny bin on the right went up last year — and now the new one in front is taking shape, already about halfway there. Harvest is upon us, and we're racing the clock to get it finished in time. Who thinks we'll make it?

Corn silage is in the bag. Almost 30 people from 7 companies, including our own Bridgewater Farming crew, helped store 70,000 tons across Bridgewater Dairy and Oakshade Dairy, and the piles are covered. Thank you to:

Great visit from Agriprofil from Poland today. It's not every day a Polish ag publication stops by, but we have a strong connection: we regularly host interns from Poland, and our farm manager Szymon and his wife Ela made the move from Poland 10 years ago. A fun day for the team in the middle of a busy harvest season

Great morning Saturday hosting my uncle from Pennsylvania and four of his friends out for a tour of the dairy. Took them for rides in the chopper during silage harvest, and got a good picture with the family, our farm manager Simon, and the tractor. Always fun sharing what we do here with family and friends from out of town.

Had a neighbor pull up during silage harvest Saturday holding three ears of corn — two of ours, one of his. He looked at me and said, what am I doing wrong? Told him it comes down to planting a longer season corn for silage. He reckoned the manure we spread probably helps a lot too. We're chopping silage this year with yields ranging up to twenty-eight tons an acre, well above our normal peak of around twenty-two. Nothing like a little friendly ear-to-ear comparison to make your day.

Like playing a video game! John Deere operations center allows us to log in to each chopper and monitor Dry Matter of the crop and yield on the go.
