Moss Arbor Farm Holistically raised mini Nubians located in Montpelier, Va. Raising and caring for our animals in the most natural and supportive way is paramount to us.

We focus on homestead practicality: easy-keeping, hardy goats that are excellent mothers and a hand milker’s dream, while striving for breed character and excellent udder and milk genetics. Welcome to Moss Arbor Farm, located in beautiful Montpelier Virginia, just 35 minutes from the city of Richmond and about an hour east of Charlottesville. We specialize in mini Nubian dairy goats as well as he

ritage and specialty breed chickens with a focus on Black Copper Marans. We offer herd shares which include goat's milk, fresh farmer's cheese and goat milk yogurt, as well as eggs from our free range, pastured chickens and (coming soon!) sourdough bread and goat's milk soap! We focus on quality of care and proper land management to ensure our animals stay happy and healthy. Taking a natural approach to animal husbandry is the cornerstone of our farm. It has been a dream of mine to have a homestead; this is our first step and I couldn't be more thrilled! I stay at home with my two children and we care for our animals with love and appreciation for what they give us. We spend time chillin' with the chickens and lovin' on the goats every day. I am so excited to share a little bit of our farm with you!

Had to get registration pictures for the retained (and added) doelings this year and figured I would take this time to introduce the newbies! It’s been a while since I retained anyone (Milky Way was the last kid I kept) so this year is kinda special. INTRODUCING:

Moss Arbor Farm Lil’ Miss Starburst
Dam: Moss Arbor Farm TS Milky Way
Sire: Green Gables CGF Lil’ Swiss Boy *B

and

Moss Arbor Farm Pi’s Moonpie
Dam: Moss Arbor Farm Vanilla Bean
Sire: Hurlburt Farm’s Archimedes BC Pi *B

and finally, a doeling we were lucky enough to bring in from Lil'Bit of Heaven Homestead

Lil’BitofHeaven JC Happy Valley!

I think all three doelings are stunning, and I cannot wait to see them mature. I expect really good things coming from these lovely ladies.

And that closes our herd! Six does total, and that’s where we will stay for a while. I am feeling so good about my herd and my program and where we are headed. Staying small, but really honing in on the good stuff.

Milky Way’s first 12 hour fill. FF, 17 days fresh giving 2 #. I just had to share. Her teats are wide, but other than that I am so happy with her udder! She has the softest dairy skin in the herd, and she is an absolute joy to milk. She stands still with no protest as a FF. Love you, Milky Way! Thank you for carrying on your dam’s legacy in our herd.

Milky Way’s first overnight fill - not quite 12 hours because I was late getting out there last night. Can’t wait to see how it develops further into her lactation. She is 15 days fresh today, and in that time recovered from a c-section! Milky Way is doing incredibly well and has rejoined the herd. I am SO happy with her udder. She might actually have the softest dairy skin in the whole herd; it literally feels like silk. And she’s an absolute dream to milk. Her teats are wide-set, but they are so soft it’s easy to get the milk in the pail. She also has amazing milk stand manners - thank you ma’am! She didn’t even need the head gate closed, she just stood there happily eating. Gosh I love this doe!

And second pictured is Salty’s udder at 25 days fresh. She is a 3F and out of my Skillman Ranch buck. I’m very happy with her udder, and thought I would share.

Somebody wants to be a house goat! Lil’ Sticky Buns decided following me to the house after his afternoon bottle was way more fun than hanging out with those lame goats. All they wanna do is chow down on grass 🙄😆
