We have a new baby on the farm!
Meet Lola! She loves snuggles. This was a sweet moment and then she snuggled in a little too far and she wound up testing out the electric fence. It works!

Anyone else have “foolproof” tricks to get medicine or vitamins into your livestock? 😂

Today’s bright idea given to me from another goat raising friend: peanut butter sandwiches for 13 goats so they’d take their copper boluses.

What I pictured: Every goat happily taking one bite, swallowing the bolus, and walking away like perfect little angels.

What actually happened: All but TWO turned their noses up at it. 🙄 So it was back to Plan B… catching goats, prying mouths open, and getting the boluses down the old-fashioned way. Final score: one bitten finger, and 11 annoyed goats. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Seems like my expectations and reality rarely line up around here.

Another case in point… yesterday we decided to move the boy lambs in with the boy goats so they’d eat the grass down. Simple enough, right? Nope. One of the girl lambs launched herself through the electric fence, snapped a post, and then had us chasing her around in the rain while she acted like it was the best game ever. What should’ve been a five-minute chore turned into… well… farm life. 😂

The animals always seem to have a completely different plan than the humans.

Anyone else’s livestock humble them on a daily basis? 🐐🌧️🤣

Original sounds on our little hobby farm. Complete with Mike yelling from our rooster doing a sneak attack on him (he never attacks me or anyone else who visits the farm, just him) and me accidentally letting some of the girl goats out with the boys. Never a dull moment around here.

🍯🐝 𝗕𝗲𝗲 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺! 🐝🍯

A couple of days ago, I added another super to the beehive! The girls have been hard at work bringing in nectar, and we’re taking it as a good sign that they need a little more room. 💛

Here’s to hoping all of their hard work pays off and we’ll have some farm-fresh honey later this season. I’m already channeling my inner Winnie the Pooh and dreaming about biscuits, tea, and local honey. 🍯🐻

Beekeeping has definitely been a learning experience, but it’s pretty amazing to watch thousands of tiny workers doing what they do best. Fingers crossed for a sweet harvest this year! 🤞🐝🌼

Life has been busy on the farm.

Long days, with every day ending in complete exhaustion — but also so much progress.

Farmer Man, as he’s been affectionately nicknamed, got the second section of the north pasture done, and we were able to move the sheep over for rotational grazing. Then he immediately started working on a back fence connecting one pasture to the other to help keep our Great Pyrenees from heading off into the woods.

The Halo Collars work about 90% of the time, but that other 10% is super frustrating.

Soon, the entire backyard area will be fenced in for the dogs and the new puppy.

Yes… a new puppy will be joining the farm soon! Stay tuned for pictures! 🐾

Once the back fence is finished — hopefully tomorrow — we’ll have two more sections left on the north pasture and then that’ll be done.

I also rototilled a new garden area this year because last year’s garden spot was clearly not the best choice. On top of that, all the animal pens got cleaned out and fresh bedding put down.

Exhausted? Absolutely.
Grateful? Also absolutely.
Farm life is no joke, but little by little, it’s all coming together.
