Scandinavian dairy giant Arla Foods has officially halted its trial of Bovaer, a feed additive marketed to cut methane emissions from cattle.

The decision follows reports from Danish farmers of cattle suffering fever, collapses, and even deaths after the additive’s mandatory rollout earlier this year.

Officials say investigations are ongoing, as the dairy industry weighs the balance between climate goals and animal welfare.

🌾 Ever wonder why that steak at the grocery store costs more these days—yet small ranchers like us still scrape by?
This photo is more than a truck and trailer. It’s the story of growing pains on a small family operation.
For years, we ran 30-50 cows + up to 60 sheep across our home farm and 4 leased properties. Moving the whole “flerd” (that’s flock + herd 😉) every 30 days meant:
• Gathering everyone into a pen
• Sorting off just a few animals at a time
• Loading our tiny stock trailer
• Driving to the new pasture
• Repeat. All. Day.

We do as much as possible to raise our livestock as natural as we can. They are on pasture year round and we use adaptive grazing techniques to mimic natural herd movements so our animals are always on fresh grass and have access to a diverse forage. This is important for animal health, reduces parasite pressure, improves nutrient density and I think gives a better flavor. We do not use any vaccines, antibiotics, chemical wormers on our livestock. We also do not do any chemical fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides or artificial treatments on our pastures. Just healthy cows on diverse pastures working with nature.

We are taking deposits for September beef. We have 1/4, half and whole cows available. You can expect to pay around $2400-$2800 for a half cow. This is the full cost, processing is included.
These are South Poll / Angus cross steers or Scottish Highland /South Poll cross steers.
