The paving is ALMOST done - all but a little section where we connect to Taylortown Road, which is getting finished this morning. We won’t be able to drive on it until the end of the day, BUT, customers can park across the street and walk to the Honey House. Or, just plan to visit tomorrow. So sorry for the inconvenience! Just think how much easier it’s going to be on everyone’s suspension, not to mention our spines! UPDATE: All done! Come on back!

Some folks - like me - always seem to need to get into new varieties of mischief. My most recent venture is this: I’m now a published author!

“Tell the Bees” is a murder mystery centered around beekeepers and the most pressing issue facing honey bees today - the deadly parasite Varroa destructor. Published by Wicwas Press, the novel will soon be available on Amazon. I have copies for sale at the Honey House, for anyone local who would like to check it out, and, of course, on the website, www.gooserockfarm.com. Click on the store link.

I believe, and have been assured, that it’s a fun read, and, if you don’t know much about bees but would like to learn more, unlike every other novel centered around honey bees, the information in this one - coming from an EAS-certified Master Beekeeper who has taught beekeeping for a quarter century - is accurate.

Hoping all of you who read the book enjoy the experience as much as I enjoyed the writing!

UPDATE: Having some issues with the website. It may be a day or two before the book gets posted. Waiting for an IT support person to get back to me!

Probably not going to be able to get the snow cleared until late Monday or maybe even Tuesday so I’m hoping everyone stocked up on honey in advance of this storm!

I’ve parked the truck and car in the gravel parking area so customers can drive straight in, park on the paved circular driveway, and continue straight to drive out. Couldn’t get ALL the snow off the shared driveway and there’s a bit of ice below, so I thought this would be safer and easier. We’re open!

Been pouring beeswax. The house smells amazing! Was making creamed honey but my motor broke down after I got the blueberry done so it’s going to be a couple of weeks before I can do the creamed wildflower. 🫤 Have to replace the motor.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all!

So it’s finally over, and I’m very glad! The prosecutor called me out of the courtroom to discuss how to proceed. One option was to pursue the criminal charges and try to recover more than $500. No idea exactly how much he stole but it was likely more than $1000. This would involve a trial and a lot of time. He likely would be found guilty.

The second option was to allow him to plead guilty to a lesser offense - disorderly conduct. He would pay a fine of $750, and retribution of $500, and, provided he stayed clean for a year, avoid having a criminal record. He also would be banned from ever setting foot on Gooserock Farm property for life. This is what I chose. The consequences were likely not as severe as was merited but there WERE consequences. Best of all, no more sitting in court for me while my bees need care and there’s work to be done.

The judge asked if I was satisfied with his being banned from my farm and I responded that if I ever saw his face at my place, I’d sic my bees on him. That got a smile from His Honor.

I’m so happy this is over. And, clearly, Misti is, too!

Fourth time. Maybe this one’s the charm, but I’ll believe it when I see it. At 2:30 at the Montville courthouse in the Public Safety building, the trial of our alleged thief, James Totten, will be held. So far, I’ve spent 5 1/2 hours sitting with my amazing friend Pat Gamsby waiting for something other than delays to happen. Last time the attorney asked for a postponement because he hadn’t seen the videos.

Just to remind everyone what this little farm is all about, this is a video of my poor hungry bees accessing my pollen feeder in this horribly dry year.
