On Friday, we hosted our very first A Homemade Heritage Family Workshop β€” From Seed to Jar β€” and I couldn't be more grateful for the families who came and helped us bring this little idea to life.

Just two weeks and two days earlier, I had put up a post asking whether anyone would even be interested in something like this.

And then suddenly, here we were. 🀎

We planted seeds, wandered through the garden, harvested cucumbers, visited the chickens, tasted fermented foods, learned about fermentation, and packed jars of pickles to take home.

There were little hands in the soil, kids gathered around the table, lots of questions, lots of tasting, and families learning right alongside one another.

It was exactly the kind of morning we had hoped these workshops could become.

And, of course, we learned plenty from our first one, too. There are already things I want to tweak and ideas I'm excited to add next time. But mostly, I walked away incredibly encouraged by what happened when a group of families came together to learn and make something side by side.

To each of the families who joined us: thank you for taking a chance on our very first workshop. Thank you for bringing your kids, jumping in, asking questions, trying new things, and being part of the beginning of this with us.

We hope you had as much fun as we did β€” and we hope there are some happy little plants growing and jars bubbling away in your homes right now. 🌱πŸ₯’

This was just the beginning.

We can't wait to do it again. 🀎

🌿 We're trying something new at our next Homestead Market!

When we started hosting our little markets here in Monument, one of the things we hoped they could eventually become was more than simply a place to shop.

Our family spends a lot of time growing food, making things from scratch, preserving what we grow, working with our hands, and learning skills that used to be pretty ordinary parts of everyday life.

So... we thought it might be fun to start sharing some of that while you're here.

_______________________________________________________________

This Saturday, we're going to experiment with offering a couple of free live demonstrations during our Homestead Market:

πŸ₯¬ Making Sauerkraut β€” we'll show you how we turn fresh cabbage into naturally fermented sauerkraut.

🧼 Cold-Process Goat Milk + Tallow Soap β€” come see how we make our bars of soap from scratch using goat milk and locally sourced grass-fed beef tallow.

Demonstration schedule:
πŸ₯¬10:30 am β€” Sauerkraut
🧼11:30 am β€” Goat Milk + Tallow Soap
The demonstrations are free β€” just come watch, learn, and ask questions!

_______________________________________________________________

But here's where we'd love your help. 🀎

If we continue offering demonstrations at future Homestead Markets, what would YOU actually want to come learn about?

Some things our family could share:

πŸ₯– Sourdough bread
πŸ₯› Water kefir
πŸ«™ Kombucha
πŸ₯¬ Fermenting vegetables
πŸ… Water-bath & pressure canning
🌾 Baking with freshly ground whole grains
πŸͺ Chocolate chip cookies with fresh-ground flour
πŸ₯© Homemade beef jerky
🌿 Herbal salves & infused oils
🌿 Herbal tinctures
🧼 Soap making
πŸ•―οΈ Beeswax candles
πŸͺ΅ Woodworking
🌱 Growing & using herbs
πŸ₯š Backyard chickens
πŸ₯œ Sprouting & preparing nuts/grains

Or something else entirely?

Tell us in the comments! πŸ‘‡

We're genuinely curious what people in our community would enjoy learning.

And if you'd like to come see our first two demonstrations, our next A Homemade Heritage Homestead Market is this Saturday, August 29 from 10am–1pm in Monument. 🌿
(I'll share the event page in the comments)

🌿 THANK YOU, TRI-LAKES! 🀎

We honestly don't quite know what to say.

Yesterday was our very first A Homemade Heritage Homestead Market, and so many of you came out to support our family.

We weren't sure what to expect when we put those signs along the road and started setting everything up Saturday morning. We hoped a few people would stop by.

You absolutely blew us away.

You came. You shopped. You asked questions. You talked with our kids. You bought things we had grown, baked, fermented, crocheted, carved, engraved, poured, mixed, and made with our own hands.

And you encouraged us.

So many of you took the time to tell us how excited you were about what our family is building. Some of you had seen us on Facebook. Some found a flyer in our neighborhood. And a whole lot of you simply saw one of our homemade signs along the road and decided to see what was going on. 😊

For our family, this is about so much more than selling things.

A Homemade Heritage is something we're building together.

We're teaching our kids to work hard, create things of value, serve other people, learn real-life business skills, grow and make more of what our family uses, and share those things with our community.

And yesterday, you became part of that.

Thank you for buying a loaf of bread or a dozen eggs.

Thank you for trying something fermented.

Thank you for choosing something one of our kids made.

Thank you for letting our 11-year-old make you a balloon animal. πŸ˜‚

Thank you for asking about our ingredients, our processes, our animals, and why we do things the way we do.

Thank you for telling your friends.

And thank you to those who simply stopped by to say hello and encourage us.

We are incredibly grateful. 🀎

And yes... we're doing it again!

🌿 Our next A Homemade Heritage Homestead Market will be Saturday, August 29.

We're already talking about what we can make, grow, and improve for the next one - and we have some fun ideas we're considering, too. πŸ˜‰

From our whole family...

thank you for supporting our little family business. We can't wait to welcome you back. 🀎

TOMORROW!! 🌿 Our first Homestead Market!

We've been busy around here getting ready, and we can finally give you a peek at some of what you'll find at our A Homemade Heritage Homestead Market tomorrow!

We'll have a little bit of everything our family has been making, growing, and creating:

🍞 Freshly baked whole-grain breads and baked goods
🍎 Homemade apple butter, applesauce, pantry pie filling, and more
🌢️ Peach salsa and other pantry favorites
πŸ₯œ Homemade peanut butter
🌿 Homemade seasoning blends
πŸ… Fresh produce from our garden
πŸ•―οΈ Hand-poured beeswax candles
πŸͺ΅ Hardwood cutting boards and handcrafted wood goods
πŸ”₯ Wood-burned Scripture signs
🌿 Herbal products
⭐ Custom laser engraving on site..and a few other things we've been working on!

One thing that matters a lot to us at A Homemade Heritage is what goes into the things we make.

We choose the best ingredients we reasonably can - organic whenever possible, whole foods, freshly ground whole grains, and simple ingredients we feel good about using in our own home.

But there's something else we want you to know:

We don't just want to sell you homemade things. We want to inspire you to make them, too.

If a jar of homemade apple butter, a loaf of freshly baked bread, or a handcrafted cutting board helps make your home a little healthier, more intentional, or more homemade, we're thrilled.

And if someday you don't need to buy it from us anymore because you learned to make it yourself?

Even better. ❀️

So come see what we've been working on tomorrow.

We'll have FREE SAMPLES, plenty to shop, and we'd love for you to simply come hang out with us for a while.

🌱 Our first A Homemade Heritage Family Workshop is officially open for registration!

What if your kids could see the whole process - from growing food in the garden, to harvesting it, to preserving it for their family?

That’s what we’ll be doing at From Seed to Jar, our first hands-on Family Workshop.

On Friday, August 21, we’re inviting a small group of families to spend the morning with us on our homestead.

Together, we’ll:
πŸ₯’ explore the garden and learn practical ways to grow food - even in small spaces
πŸ₯’ harvest cucumbers and turn them into naturally fermented pickles
πŸ₯¬ plant a fall crop to take home and continue growing
πŸ«™ taste several of our family’s favorite fermented foods
🌢 learn the basics of vegetable fermentation
🏑 talk about how to take what you’ve learned and actually use it at home

But we don't want families to simply watch us do these things.

You'll be doing them alongside us.

And when the workshop is over, the experience keeps going.

Each family will leave with their planted fall crop plus everything needed to make a second ferment at home - a pint of fermented pico - so your family can take what you learned here and do it again in your own kitchen.

Our goal with these workshops isn't simply to teach kids another skill.

We want to create opportunities for parents and children to learn, work, problem-solve, make something real, and discover what they're capable of together.

And if you love the idea but this particular date or time doesn't work for your family, there's an option on the registration page to let us know. We're already gathering information to help us decide when to offer the next one.

We'd love to have your family join us. ❀️

The kitchen has changed from apples to peaches. πŸ‘

This week has been one of those weeks when the harvest seems to come in faster than we can possibly keep up with it. πŸ˜†

We’ve been peeling, chopping, preserving, washing jars, filling jars... and then starting all over again.

And, as usual, it’s a family affair.

One of the things we love about this way of life is that our kids aren't just watching us make things. They're learning alongside us - how to preserve a harvest, work together, contribute to something our family is building, and turn boxes of fresh food into something we'll enjoy months from now.

Some of what we're making this week will also be making its way to our very first A Homemade Heritage Homestead Market this Saturday. 🌿

We’re getting closer!

Saturday, August 15 | 10am–1pm
Monument, Colorado

Come shop, sample some of what we've been making, and spend a little time with us at the homestead.

And yes... we'll probably still be processing something when you get here. πŸ˜‚
