๐ŸRaise your hand if you make a bee waterer each summer? Yep, those little honeybees need a drink occasionally! Don't make the water too high. Stop just below the stones. Thank you!

A helpful guide to the tiny friends in your garden ๐Ÿ
One makes wax and lots of honey, one is a very fluffy flower lover, and one pollinates while keeping pests away โ€” just needs a little more personal space.

Bees and their look-alikes all play different but important roles.
The fluffy ones are gentle pollination experts that adore flowers.
Even the striped โ€œdonโ€™t get too closeโ€ friend helps your garden thrive naturally.

Respect their space, plant more flowers, and let these small workers keep nature buzzing.

Your clock changed this morning. Theirs didn't.

Daylight Saving Time shifted your schedule by one hour today. Every animal in your yard is still on solar time. Starting tomorrow morning, the collision begins.

WHAT CHANGES FOR THEM (nothing):
โ†’ The robin still forages at first light โ€” that's 6:15am solar time
โ†’ The Barred Owl still calls at 3am solar time
โ†’ The woodcock still launches his sky dance 22 minutes after solar sunset
โ†’ The deer still cross at solar dusk

WHAT CHANGES FOR YOU (everything):
โ†’ Your morning commute now overlaps with peak wildlife road-crossing hours. The deer you never saw at 6am are still crossing at the same solar time โ€” but YOUR 6am is now THEIR 5am. You're driving in the dark when they're moving.
โ†’ Your evening dog walk now falls in peak hunting time for hawks and owls adjusting to longer light. Off-leash small dogs are at higher risk for the next 2-3 weeks.
โ†’ Your dawn mowing now happens during nest-building hour. Ground-nesting birds selecting sites this week will be disrupted.

THE 2-WEEK ADJUSTMENT WINDOW:
For 2 weeks after DST, wildlife-human collision risk increases:
โ†’ Road-kill rates spike 8-15% in the week after DST (documented in multiple state DOT studies)
โ†’ Nest disturbance complaints peak as yard work shifts into dawn activity hours
โ†’ Dog-wildlife encounters increase as evening walks extend into dusk hunting windows

WHAT TO DO THIS WEEK:
โ†’ Drive 5mph slower at dawn and dusk โ€” the wildlife is where it always was, but you're now there too
โ†’ Delay first mow of the season by 2 weeks โ€” ground-nesters are selecting sites right now
โ†’ Keep dogs leashed at dusk for 2-3 weeks until hunting patterns stabilize
โ†’ Move bird feeder fills to mid-morning instead of dawn to avoid startling nesting scouts

The time changed. The wildlife didn't. You're the one who has to adjust.

Keeping leaves in your yard can bolster the number and variety of species around โ€” and the perks go beyond just the fall season.

Did you know your garden might already be a nursery? ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚
Those dried, hollow stems from last season arenโ€™t โ€œmessโ€ theyโ€™re home to baby bees sleeping through winter. Cutting them now destroys next springโ€™s pollinators. Leave a little wildness for them, and youโ€™ll get a buzzing, blooming garden in return!

๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฐ๐ŸฐRABBIT, RABBIT, RABBIT๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿ‡
As one season passes into another and the months change name,
count your blessings and urge the fates,
by saying rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, when first you wake ~
So October brings a month of luck and time
with dear soul-mates!
