Our quail have finally started laying!! Anyone been looking to add quail to your farm?

Quail are much smaller than chickens. Smaller bird equals less space. Making them only need about 1 square foot per bird.

Quail lay eggs daily. The eggs are smaller, but very rich in nutrients. Many bakers actually prefer quail eggs over chicken eggs!

Quail are much smaller and easier to process than a chicken or turkey. They also don’t have to be plucked!

Quail aren’t considered livestock. So if you live in the city and aren’t allowed chickens, you can have quail.

Quail are smaller, so of course they eat less. Making your feed cost much lower than with chickens.

Quail won’t disturb your neighbors!

Quail mature rapidly. You can tell male from female at only 3 weeks old. They also lay eggs and are ready to harvest at only 6-8 weeks old.

Quail meat is considered a delicacy. Raising quail means you can have a delicious meal, right from your back yard.

Let us know if you may be interested in some quail babies this spring🥰

There are 4 in total… 2 are yellow, one red, and one is the fluffy silkie in the back of the first pic. They are free but MUST BE PICKED UP IN MOORESBURG

I have a couple young roosters needing a new flock, if anyone is interested here before I post them in local groups. They’re a bantam barnyard mix and will stay about this size so pretty small fellas.

I packed away the incubator then realized I had 3 Mamas sitting on nests. This morning I went out to check and heard this… the babies are hatching and the Mamas are celebrating 🥰

Maybe y’all will find this as interesting as me 😁

I call this.. egg in a jar. Not the most creative name, but it’ll do.

I put 3 eggs in 3 different jars and stuck them in the incubator. Today is day 3/4 (tonight will begin day 4) and here are the results so far…

#1 was cracked directly in the jar and covered with plastic — no development.

#2 was cracked into plastic draped inside the jar than covered with plastic and holes poked to allow air inside — I can see some development but blood vessels haven’t formed so can’t really tell if it’s going any further quite yet.

#3 was put in draped plastic and covered with plastic and air tight — I see blood vessels!! Looks like this one may be growing 😁
