This right here is what people mean when we say diesel prices hit agriculture differently.

$6.89 a gallon.

And before somebody says, “Well I don’t drive a diesel…”

You still pay for diesel.

You pay for it when the tractor goes across the field.

You pay for it when hay gets cut, raked, baled and hauled.

You pay for it when feed gets delivered.

You pay for it when cattle are hauled.

You pay for it when a refrigerated truck moves meat.

You pay for it when groceries are transported from one place to another.

Diesel gets worked into almost everything agriculture touches.

And the farmer or rancher doesn’t get to look at the fuel bill and say, “Never mind, I just won’t feed today.”

The cows still eat.

The hay still has to move.

The work still has to get done.

That’s what people don’t understand when they see food prices climbing and immediately assume the farmer is making more money.

A lot of the time, we are paying more money just to produce the same thing.

Fuel.
Feed.
Hay.
Equipment.
Repairs.
Processing.
Freight.

All of it keeps stacking.

So when you see a sign like this, don’t just think about what it costs to fill a pickup.

Think about what it costs to keep America fed.

Because eventually, this number shows up in your grocery cart too. 🐂🌾⛽️
