Askegaard Organic Farm is a 6th generation family farm located south of Moorhead, MN that has been certified organic since 1997.

We grow flax, wheat, soybeans, pinto beans, oats, and cover crops. Located south of Moorhead, Minnesota in the fertile Red River Valley of the North, Askegaard Organic Farm is a 6th generation family farm, committed to organic agriculture. Our 980 acre grain farm is family owned and operated and we are proud to have been certified organic by the USDA since 1997. We believe in locally grown food, small farms, healthy rural communities, trust, diversity, and sustainability. For your health, and for the environment's, we do not use any commercially produced fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, or genetically modified seeds.

There’s something so special about a field of cut flax. It almost feels ancestral. A crop that was once predominant on the landscape has now become a rarity to see.

One of the oldest cultivated crops in human history, flax is often regarded as a foundation crop of modern civilization. Knowing that these plants have been used for a variety of purposes dating back centuries - its nutritious seeds can be consumed for health benefits, its long stems can be spun into linen for clothing, it can be pressed into linseed oil for woodworking… - we’re proud to still sow, care for, and harvest this remarkable crop, in the same manner as the generations before us did… organically.

✨ Flaxseed Granola ✨

A perfect topping for yogurt with berries, or a delightful snack on its own, this homemade granola is delicious any way you serve it! Grab a spoon & dig in! 🥄

Ingredients:
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 1/4 cup Askegaard Organic Whole Flaxseed
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
- 1/3 cup maple syrup (or honey)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine oats, flaxseed & cinnamon in a bowl. Melt coconut oil in a separate bowl and blend in the maple syrup (or honey) and vanilla. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients and stir until well combined. Spread onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20 minutes, stirring halfway through. Cool completely and store in an airtight container.

Cozy up your kitchen with the aroma of apples, cinnamon, & brown sugar with this easy-to-make Apple C***r Doughnut recipe! The secret ingredients are freshly milled organic whole wheat flour and ground flaxseed! 🍎🍩

Ingredients:
1.5 cups Askegaard Organic Whole Wheat Flour
3 Tbsp Askegaard Organic Ground Flaxseed
1/4 cup cane sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1.5tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp ginger
3 Tbsp coconut oil, melted
1/4 cup plant milk or cow’s milk
1/2 cup apple c***r

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease doughnut pan. Combine dry ingredients and wet ingredients in separate bowls. Mix the wet ingredients & dry ingredients together until well blended. Spoon batter into doughnut wells until they are 1/2 full. Spread the batter evenly in the well to make a smooth surface. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool on a cooling rack & sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Store covered in the refrigerator. Yields 8 doughnuts. Enjoy!

We’re grateful to have opportunities to speak to policymakers about the challenges facing farmers today, and to be a voice for organic agriculture.

Thank you, U.S. Senator Tina Smith and MN State Senator Rob Kupec for asking to visit the farm, and for taking the time to engage in conversation with us yesterday afternoon. We appreciate every opportunity that we’re given to advocate for family farms, rural communities, and the future of agriculture.

A few highlights from our 2026 wheat harvest! 🌾

This year, we harvested 301 beautiful acres of certified organic spring wheat (hard red spring and hard white spring). Weather conditions were conducive to a smooth harvest and the quality and yield from this year’s crop were great despite unusually hot and dry weather throughout the growing season.

Now that the wheat crop has been taken off the field, we’ll let our stand of clover continue to grow into the fall, providing a number of benefits to the soil: Nitrogen fixation, erosion prevention, soil aeration, and w**d suppression to name a few! Soil health is the foundation of certified organic agriculture, and it’s what makes our wheat berries so nutritious and flavorful! 🚜
