Man alive it’s been a crazy spring so far… 7 cows to go and we will be done for the season.

Weaning day was November 28th, 2021. Worked the calves in the chute. Administered fall booster vaccines, oral and pour on dewormer. Then hauled all 21 head of calves to the north feed lot on the farm. Here they hang out and are worked onto a grain ration with unlimited hay and salt blocks until mid February. We sell Presidents Day week up in Motley, MN. What a nice group of feeders we have this year! Our bull “Schiefelbein 38 Special 1159” sure stamped his breeding into these guys!

We had some serious maintenance in the west horse pasture today. Lots of smaller trees taken down, thorns and brush eradicated and leveled.

THE MIRACLE OF RAIN!

We’re in serious drought weather this summer so the pastures have been pretty bare. So much so that we’ve been feeding hay to the cattle for the past 14 days.

But thanks to the thunderstorms that rumbled thru the past weeks the pastures are finally starting to green up once more 🙌💕😊

We are really proud of our beef production here at Rodenborg Farm. 

Here we have a group of 20 calves that we are feeding up until Presidents’ Day week. We will then ship them up to Tri-County Livestock in Motley MN and sell. 

It’s always a bittersweet time of year ending the chapter on the previous year of calves, yet creating excitement for the up-and-coming calving season!

We take a lot of pride in raising quality animals for your table. Treating them with respect, and keeping them healthy with a good herd health plan.

Pictured is #8 with her heifer calf from this year. What a fun candid shot. Very similar facial markings!

We are so proud of the herd we have built and maintained over the past decade together. We have good breedable cows that produce wonderful young stock year after year.

Horse introductions went great! 🙂 the two on the left of the feeder mingled well with there new herd mates ❤️ so happy to have a great feeder with net to keep the horses busy munching away and keeping the waste at an all time minimum! Hay chix nets are awesome!!!

Fall clean up hit the farm this past week. We laid mats in the barn, organized the feed and tack rooms, and scrapped the horse lots and hauled out excess manure.

Our family has been so blessed! We have wonderful boarders that allow us to care for their horses, and help us enjoy what we love! ❤️

Moving cattle across the driveway to the north pastures for the last time this year. We pregnancy check cows and castrate calves in 2 weeks. This year is flying by!

Fall sure feels like it’s settling in. Horses are in their dry lots for the rest of the year and with VERY yummy hay! Such lucky animals!!!

We added onto our chicken area and build a 3x5 brooding shelter and created a separate run with door access. We hatched 7 chicks over Easter weekend and we moved them outside a week ago in their new digs! 😊 We love getting farm fresh eggs every day from our girls and can wait for these guys to grow up and join the flock!
