With a southern drawl thicker than the low country humidity in mid-July, we’ve had some good laughs thinking about our dear friend “Bates” co-existing with the posh socialites in London, United Kingdom. When he told us he was leaving London to open Duration, a farm brewery in the English sticks, we knew he was going to feel right at home. 

At the beginning of 2020, we were in the United Kingdom for a beer festival thrown by our very good friends at Cloudwater Brewing of Manchester, UK. On that trip, we were lucky enough to spend some time with Miranda and Bates, brewing with them at their incredible bucolic brewery in Norfolk. 

On the last evening of the festival, let’s just say we had way too good of a time and ended up at a karaoke bar until the sun came up. With the roadtrip to Norfolk planned for that morning, some of us felt like we were blindfolded and kidnapped to the English countryside. 

In spite of some of the obvious self-inflicted hardships from that trip, it represents some incredibly special and meaningful memories to us. With not being able to visit them through the pandemic, we decided to link up digitally to create and collaborate. In doing so, we managed to convince Bates that we should make an English-style best bitter. Y’all should really be glad we did. 

You know how sometimes you don’t know something is missing from your life until it is cold and touches your lips? Yeah, this is that. Mashed with a unique blend of local malt for a super clean, crisp and biscuit-y profile. Delicately hopped with some extra choice, super sexy Wilamette . Fermented with a traditional English ale yeast for a full and round yet dry finish. 

When checking in on these lovelies during the pandemic, Bates responded “locked down like a gators mouth”. Well it’s time to open up that mouth and knock back this interpretation of a best bitter. 

Thankfully, years have passed by since the days of the lockdown and we are thrilled to be bringing this beer back into existence. Available in cans at all taprooms now!

Mashed with local barley malt along with a unique and complex blend of the world’s very finest caramel and crystal malts. Fermented with our preferred house ale yeast for a robust, layered and full bodied drinking experience. Aged in saturated bourbon barrels and finished again in bourbon barrels but this time in privately selected barton 1792 barrels.

We constantly pour our hearts into our barleywine program and we think our half birthday namesake is yet another maillard masterpiece. As they say, the proof is in the pudding.

Dripping with sticky dried fruits, barrel depth, nutty nuances and complemented by swaths of salted vanilla, creme brulee and charred oak, Half Birthdaywine helps us celebrate what it
means to be getting older in craft beer. Happy Half Birthday to us! Stay sticky, y’all!

MEEMAW [BLEND #9]

Brewed with local barley from Riverbend Malt House and cereal mashed local raw wheat. Boiled with burlap-aged hops. Fermented with our mixed house cultures in one of our large wooden oak tanks. Transferred into oak for months of extended aging. Transferred out of oak onto a massive amount of a meticulous blend of whole Michigan-grown montmorency and balaton cherries. Fermented and aged on the whole cherries for months and months. Racked off the cherries and transferred back into oak for further maturation. Conditioned naturally inside the bottle and keg.

Perhaps the perfect fruit to marry with barrel-aged sour beer, we look forward to this blend year after year. Bursting with cherry marm and toasted lavender with complementary assertive acidity, blend 9 of this mainstay wild ale always keeps us coming back for more.

Coming out hot! 🥵 One of our newest pies is for all those lazy bones out there.

LAZY PIEROGI : When everyone’s tired of pinching pierogis all winter, we take our beloved “kapusta” (caramelized cabbage, onions and kraut) pair it with sausage and spring peas. Usually served with noodles in a polish household, we thought why not make it into a pizza. Come get lazy with this savory pie as we say goodbye to spring and begin to welcome in the summer produce.
