I get questions about pesticides and herbicides and for those who are looking to improve your garden and plants especially acid loving plants I would love to share our secrets to keeping pests and weeds under control and knowing you are eating something that is healthy. For acid loving plants we use 30% vinegar. Be careful to not spray directly on leaves it will burn them. We used 20% before and it could be sprayed on leaves and not burn them. For bugs I suggest boiling garlic cloves in water and then adding some dawn dish soap which will help it stick to the leaves. Another option is to purchase pray mantis eggs and hang in branches of your plants and when they hatch they will feed on the bugs. We tilled between the rows of berries this year and planted clover. This will fix the nitrogen in the soil for our blueberries. To keep the ph down to 5-5.5 we use elemental sulfur. It is very slow acting and is of no value until the soil warms up. I hope this information helps all who are interested in growing your own food and lets all help each other grow without poisions.

Zink berry farm will be open for limited picking this weekend. Hours daylight to dark. Honor system just like before and buckets, baggies etc will be in the big barn again when you come in the driveway with the berries across the driveway from the barn.
I would guess in another week we will have a ton ready. I ate some while mowing the other day and they were huge and sweet!

Just got a oppossum out of the chicken coop. He was sound asleep when I went in and woke him up. He never offered to bite but let me pet his head, scratch behind his ears and stroke his back. I talked softly to him and every once in awhile would push his bottom up to encourage him to move on. He finally did get up and strolled out of the coop. I felt terrible when I realized he only had 3 legs and his left front was a stub. He was very sweet and I am sure we will meet again. Next time I will take my phone with me so I can video him.
