Chris calls us the "throw away farm" because Tina has to give every creature a chance at life. This 3 day old Bantam chick could have a vitamin deficiency from when the egg was being developed. 🤞that it becomes stronger.

Such a crazy busy spring morning. Baby bunnies were also born yesterday 🐰 😍 🐇
Momma rabbits are sensitive to human interactions with the babies. So for the first week, we keep it simple and gently check the nest. After a week old we can start to handle them.

One reason we choose to raise our own pork is because pigs will eat absolutely anything. That's good news for small farms & homesteaders. However that also means cheapest, bottom of the barrel to feed in the meat industry.
Makes us wonder what is in standard grocery store pork?
Ours are fed fruit & veggie scraps from the farm market, corn, livestock feed, and any non meat leftover from our kitchen.
This rounds breakdown = 1 full deep freezer + some added into the family freezer.

Each pig clean weight:
246 & 205
451 lbs. Combined clean weight
157 lbs. smoked (bacon, hams, Boston butts)
23 lbs breakfast sausage
50 lbs. Pork roll - yes that's 50 pounds of freshly made jersey pork roll 😋 don't be jealous now 😜

Processed a few of our farm raised turkeys today. Cleaned weight ranged from 27 - 32 pounds. A bit big for the rotisserie.
Not bad data on this round, with about 24 pounds of bone / waste, most of which is cooking down to soup broth. Turkey anyone 😋 gooble gobble 🦃

I don't use the word "rescue" lightly. We have full time jobs outside of animal care on our little farm. We don't do this for profit, if anything we are a throw away farm. We help animals when their owners are not able to for whatever reason. These girls were a part of a team effort to remove 9 pigs from a desperate backyard situation. They were obviously pregnant 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ so here we are +4 and up to 6 more on the way.
