Some days you're building a barn, and then others you're preparing a space for a bottle baby that you were absolutely not expecting. 😲 It's never a dull day at Down Home Farm!

We've had a busy summer improving the farm. We've been working on cleaning out and tearing down the little barn. We're finally to the point of rebuilding!

In it's place will be the perfect roller skating rink! (Or so the grandkids think. 😉) We got a lot finished this weekend and started training up the next generation. 🔨

We went fishing.... for goldfish!

We installed these recycled tire water tanks last summer and the goldfish help us maintain them. Today was the day to see how many goldfish we still had in each tank and clean out the gross stuff that has accumulated.

We brought in help to catch the fish, drain the water, scrub the tires, and then refill. The help only complained a few times (and only fought over nets a few more times than that,) but the tanks now look clean and sparkly! We only had one fish take an accidental road trip down the drain pipe, but he was promptly saved.

Meet Strawberry! 🍓 One of our OG ladies (so eloquently named "Red Eye" twelve years ago) decided this was a beautiful day to start off our calving season. ☀️ Strawberry is one of our smallest calves we've ever had, only weighing 47 lbs!

Tamara (the cow, not the person) looks like she's next to have a baby so the farm help got her a spot ready. Mistakes were made with shoe choices (this seems to happen yearly) and a good wash in freezing cold water solved the problem. 🥶😄
