The Farmetta Farm

The Farmetta Farm Pasture based livestock farm We should have named the farm the happy critter farm. We strive to build this farm from the soil up. Sheep being sheep.

Having healthy thick dark soil will feed the animals, keeping them content to be who they are. Chickens scratching up a storm. Ducks marching out on bug patrol. You just can't beat it!

Hello you Lovely Humans!

Well the transition is almost complete, from pasture based livestock farmer to civilian with homesteading tendency's it's been an interesting and wild transition, and it's not done . What critters are left will be going to summer camp this year so I can get my feet under me, pay off the farm debt I've accrued and rehab my body.

I don't know how frequently I'll post here on the farm page but I've decided to leave the page up and working for a few reasons. One, it's a interesting read for non farmers and new farmers alike. Two, I can wander back through with nostalgia. Three, once I have more balance in my life, I'll work on that book so many have asked me about.

Are you wondering what I'm doing now to make a living... Two things, I'm managing two farmers markets, Bayside farmers market and Dover Cove Farmers' Market. The second, I've wandered back to my other love, massage therapy. I'll be opening my own studio in a few weeks. Your Welcome to come check out my new page Collective Health, and when you're in the area or need your body rebalanced come make an appointment...

I hope you've all enjoyed the tales and foibles of the last 8 years, I know I have!

Cheers to you all, and take care of yourselves and your community.

HELLO! So, many of you know that I've been in transition from farming to non farming (or perhaps better stated, from market farming to homestead farming...) This transition is giving me more flexibility to pursue other financial avenues, and passions that I needed to limit or curtail due to time constraints, and lack of energy from farm work.

BUT, that is no longer the case! I am pretty damn excited that my love of collaboration, and community support have started me on this new business experience. Yet, this is something old as well since I had been volunteering my time doing much of what I'll be getting paid to do! My new old adventure is manager and promoting Farmers' markets!

What occurred is once I started telling my farmer market friends and associates that I wouldn't be at market any longer, many asked if I would keep coming to market.... Well, sure if you pay me! was my response, and that lone statement, plus one conversation with a savvy vendor/business owner spoke to me about the concerns of loosing that one vendor who is cheery, who has vision for the future, and loves markets can disrupt even end a market once they leave.

That got me thinking... I knew I would miss the weekly interaction I had with all the markets I participated in. I also knew that I wanted to see both the markets and producers thrive financially. SO, Why couldn't I stay on as a manager? What was holding me back??? AHHHH the allusive MONEYYYY. Well! I do enjoy resolving problems, and I also thrive on researching potential solutions for those problems... SO, I won't get to involved in this part of the paragraph... Or details, besides this one... MORE MARKETS. BUT, know that I'm diligently finding the right answers to solve the money puzzle!

I feel for my people that have been going through so many changes in 2016...

I know no one who isn't or hasn't been effected by death of a person or situation, separation, or the ending of a union. Or people who've woken up realizing that they can no longer abide by the current disrespectful and abusive situation they have been in. For myself I gave myself permission to stop beating my body up to try and achieve a goal that felt unobtainable...

Perhaps that's it, the unobtainables that have been dangling the proverbial carrot in front of our faces for so long we now have chosen to take a small step back, take a breath, and let the reality of our situation sink in... I do not have to farm like many. You do not have to stay in a relationship that is not fulfilling. We all learn to process through and morn the death of a person or situation.

As we're facing a few more hours of 2016, and many believe in new years resolutions I will say to you... No. Give yourself whatever space is needed to listen to what you need. I know that for me resolutions don't work, I've not ever used them, I choose to keep focus in the new path that has come from the ashes of old.

Also, this time shortly after the darkest time of the year is a sweet time for introspection, and dancing in our living rooms, not necessarily resolution. Along with acceptance that we aren't perfect, we're just ourselves. Imperfect globs of history....

So, I hope for you. and I hope for me, but what I hope most, is that all this change that has occur in the last year will open us to what we need to become better! Better humans, Better at knowing when to walk away, Better at saying YES, Better at loving life, Better for all...

Happy New everyone, and My hope for you is many fulfilling returns.

Every time I read this I laugh!
