On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to attend the Illinois Beef Association Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony in Springfield. I was proud to be there representing both Wix Cattle and the Kendall-Grundy Beef Association.

The day was filled with valuable discussions, industry updates, and the chance to learn from some incredible leaders who are helping shape the future of the beef industry. We had the opportunity to hear from Colin Woodall, CEO of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, as well as Bill Graff, State Executive Director of the Farm Service Agency. Their insights on the challenges, opportunities, and future of agriculture were both informative and inspiring.

I left that evening with so much knowledge from so many different producers, professors and professionals, it was astounding. I am so grateful for the day and for meeting so many great people.

Thank you to the Illinois Beef Association for hosting a great event and for investing in the future of Illinois cattle producers.

The learning curve is real. So is the payoff.

Yet… we are grateful for all of it.

May is Beef Month 🥩

This month, we’re proud to celebrate the hardworking farm families who raise high-quality beef right here at home—and we’re honored to be part of that story.

Beef isn’t just what’s for dinner… it’s a nutrient-rich protein packed with iron, zinc, and B vitamins that help fuel your body and support a healthy lifestyle. From the pasture to your plate, there’s a whole lot of care behind every cut.

At Wix Cattle, our cattle are raised with intention—no added hormones, no antibiotics, just quality genetics, good nutrition, and responsible land stewardship. We believe that how your beef is raised matters.

We also believe in educating the next generation—supporting youth agriculture programs, teaching where food comes from, and keeping the tradition of farming alive for years to come.

So this month, when you’re firing up the grill or sitting down for a family meal, take a moment to appreciate the story behind your beef—and support your local producers. ❤️

Know your farmer. Trust your beef.

There’s nothing better than turning cattle out on fresh pasture 🌱🐮

We like to ease our cows onto grass a little at a time when spring hits and practice rotational grazing—moving them from one section to another instead of letting them stay in one spot too long. This helps keep both our cattle and our land healthy.

Fresh pasture gives our cattle a natural, nutrient-rich diet—full of protein, energy, and essential minerals they need to thrive. Our soils do lack Selenium so we always supplement with selenium mineral blocks. You can see the difference in their health and condition when they’re grazing the way nature intended.

But it’s not just about the cattle—it’s about the soil too.

By rotating pastures:
• Grass has time to rest and regrow stronger
• Roots grow deeper, improving soil structure
• Manure is spread more evenly, naturally fertilizing the land
• Soil retains more moisture and organic matter

If we can help the land out a little bit each year by practicing these methods , we can sustain a healthy herd for years to come.

Healthy soil = healthy grass = healthy cattle

It’s a cycle we’re proud to be part of—working with the land, not against it. 🌾
