It’s with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Jalen Journey, a true champion of Dutchton Farm. Jalen, the second c**t out of our mare Petunia Face, was a shining example of excellence and resilience. His achievements on the track, including lifetime earnings of $788,498.00 over 47 starts, brought recognition to our little farm, proving that even the “little guys” can produce greatness.
Throughout his career, Jalen Journey experienced many changes, passing through the hands of several trainers. But it was under the care and expertise of Steve Asmussen that he truly shone, delivering his most impressive performances. This period stands out as a significant highlight in his journey, a testament to the remarkable skill and dedication of Steve Asmussen and his team.
Seeing Jalen back under Steve Asmussen’s guidance for the past 5 months filled us with immense joy. It was equally delightful to witness Erik, Steve's son, riding him in his final races, showcasing a wonderful bond between them. Learning about Erik's dedication, insisting on being the only one to ride Jalen during those morning gallops, and bringing him carrots, adds an incredibly special touch to their relationship. It's deeply comforting to know that Jalen was surrounded by people who cared for him as deeply as we did.
Our dream was to hopefully one day welcome Jalen back to Dutchton Farm upon retirement, to repay him for the joy and pride he brought to our lives. Though we are saddened that this day will never come, we find comfort in knowing he was loved and cherished to the end.
Our deepest gratitude goes out to Steve, Erik, and their dedicated team for caring for Jalen with such compassion. To Kim Harrison for helping to keep us in the loop whenever she heard any news about Jalen. His legacy lives on at our farm, hopefully inspiring his brothers and new sister to strive for greatness. Jalen Journey, you will forever be a part of Dutchton Farm’s story. Rest in peace
