This morning was a reminder of why w**e is so much more than just a beverage. Over a dozen volunteers got up way before sunrise to descend upon the scenic Rainey Ranch Vineyard in Paso Robles' Willow Creek District to pick my dry-farmed Grenache and Portuguese Red Field Blend (Dragão). Lively conversation and laughter permeated the crisp morning air as the team made quick work of the head-trained Grenache and the steep terraces planted to Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cao, Souzao, Alvarelhao, and Bastardo (with more Grenache and a bit of Petite Sirah thrown in for good measure). Afterwards, owners/farmers Bart and Lisa Rainey treated us to a lovely spread (along with w**e of course), and then it was off to sort the grapes with the team at Midnight Cellars W**ery. It sounds cliche, but this was the best looking and tasting fruit this vineyard has produced to date and I can't wait to get it into bottle +/-3 years from now. Now more than ever, this was a wonderful reminder of why I love w**e, the amazing people in our industry, and the lovely folks who just enjoy drinking it (but were also willing to get their hands sticky to help out)!

We are looking for a few more volunteers to help us pick grapes this coming Tuesday morning, September 29th. We will meet at 6:45am and car caravan/carpool over from Midnight Cellars to the stunning Rainey Ranch Vineyard in the heart of Paso's famed Willow Creek district to pick Grenache and our Portuguese red blend Dragão - a field blend of 7 grapes including Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cao, Souzao, Alvarelhao, Bastardo, Petite Sirah and Grenache. Join the Absolution Cellars team, w**e club members, industry friends, the vineyard owners, and their friends so we can make quick work of this amazing fruit! No experience required!
