FIFTEEN YEARS Certified Naturally Grown! We’re so proud of our growing practices and grateful for Certified Naturally Grown providing us a community based, grassroots alternative to Certified Organic. We sell 95% of our harvest direct-to-consumer and we want a list of standards, a third-party inspection, and a certification to objectively communicate to our customers information about how we treat the soil and plants here at our farm.
What does it mean to “grow all natural“ or “farm naturally”? Nothing, technically. The word “natural” isn’t regulated. However, “Certified Naturally Grown” means multiple parties join together to set standards, inspect a farm, review reports, and issue a Certification stating that the food you purchase from that farm is grown a certain way. What are those standards? In simplified terms, it means that we do NOT use synthetic chemicals or fertilizers or GMO’s and we DO use plant, animal, and mineral sources to build soil health, support plant health, and fight pests and disease. We use compost (some with bio char and basalt! ), clay, fish fertilizer, soap, plant oils, and many more amendments along those lines. Everything we use is OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) approved - which means it’s approved for use on Certified Naturally Grown and Certified Organic farms. Above and beyond what inputs we use, we also build soil health (and thus plant health *and nutritional content*) through how we treat the soil (minimal to no tillage) and the minerals we add so that your food is delicious and nourishing.
This is the 16th year of our farm in business, and we sought Certification as soon as we had a year of history to show our farming practices. 🚜 Hot pro tip: rumor is we may host a farm tour on Friday July 10th. Stay tuned!
