Had another busy weekend around here. Had to do a pretty in depth repair on a collector ring for one of the circles. Caught the problem right before it would have become an expensive repair all it cost us this time is a couple of hours. Did some more circle repairs on another circle extending some drops so they are easier to get unplugged, before you either had to use the tractor or stand on the headache rack of the service truck to reach the drops now you can get at them from the ground. Also moved the cows around, still patching fences up for the storm the other day. Even begun the new dog’s farm training!

A photo from last nights storm. Not many photos were taking during the clean up today but we faired fairly well. Only had the cows get out once this morning and have been without power since 9pm last night. Hopefully we get some power back sometime tonight, then we can get our irrigation back on and the water for the cows running again. Certainly glad we don’t get storms like that very often.

Had to do a little work on the stock water in one of the pastures the other day. This particular pasture use an allotment of “stock water” from the irrigation system to keep the cows watered. This little ditch needs cleaned out every so often to keep the water flowing. We also had another twin calf, now the girls are feeding two bottle calf’s!!

The last week has been a bit busy. Got X-E Ranches cows turned out onto what will be there summer pasture for the year. We will be watching X-E Ranches cows while they are moving this summer. Also got the water started up for the summer only roughly 6 more months of that fun. Over the weekend we also acquired a baby twine calf. Tiffany is beyond thrilled to have a bottle calf to take care of.

Some of you may have noticed the page name has changed from X-E Ranches to J.T.E. Farms.

I just wanted to clear up a little confusion — X-E Ranches isn’t going away, it’s just moving. As things have changed and the future of the operation has taken shape, it felt like the right time for a name that better reflects the direction things are going here.

J.T.E. Farms represents what’s left here after X-E Ranches moves. The goal is still the same — raising hay and cattle just on a smaller scale. Farming has its ups and downs, but it’s something we care about and plan to keep working toward.

This page will continue to share the progress, the work, and the day-to-day life of J.T.E. Farms.

Thank you to everyone who has followed along and supported the journey so far.

One chapter closes, but it’s the start of something new with J.T.E. Farms and a new chapter for X-E Ranches.
