Was another busy weekend, had a couple circle repairs that needed done one machine needed the booster pump for the end gun cleaned and sealed, the other machine needed a gear box and the gear box mount welded back to the base beam. Ended up doing some diagnostic work on one of X-E Ranches pickups and helped them unload trailers to get ready for another load of equipment and stuff to head to Wyoming. Amongst all of that we had to make a trip to ER for one our kids, she got a little to close and personal to a vegetable chopper.

Had another busy and long weekend. We finally started setting the corrals up for the cows more permanent like, had to build some portable post so places here we had more than two panels meeting could all have a place to hook too. The portable post are welded onto a old disk blade and than buried about 4 or 5 inches into the ground when we place them if the corrals are going to stay long term and they hold pretty good for the most part keeping our corners in place. Had to do a quick circle repair, had to replace a u-joint and fill a circle track in. The one nice thing about living where there’s a bunch of rocks there’s no shortage of circle track fillers. Our main truck for pulling trailers went into the shop for a turbo rebuild, hauling the new tractor home proved my fear of a turbo going out to be true.

Had a fairly quiet week this last week. Had a pump suck up a beer can so had to take the pump apart and dig that out, finished up mounting lights on the new tractor so it will now be ready to work the night shift now. Picked up our latest auction purchase this weekend as well. Also after fighting a bad batch of gaskets we got from the store we were able to finally get one of the circle’s to run for more than a couple of hours at a time.

Another week down. Spent the last week mowing down some weeds in our pastures and knocking back the regrowth wheat we have coming up. We are trying to establish grass for the cows with little input, in doing so we’ve got to put in a little effort in managing weeds until the grass can take hold. Also swapped out another gearbox on one of the circles. Started teaching the kids how to do this job, that way maybe next time I can sit on the porch and stay in the shade.

Another weekend of fixing circles and working on the new tractor. Had a flat tire to change and clean out a couple dragon filters (screens that are installed in line with the mainline to help catch the stuff in the water). We finished up the overhaul of the shift linkage on the new tractor and got rid of the previous owners customer shifters. Also doing some other odds and ends to the tractor getting it ready for the baler. We also turned the bulls out with the cows this last week.

Life on the farm is always eventful. Had to do some repairs on the circles, repair the excess water pond, move the cows to new grass and repair fences from wind damage from the storm that came through last week. Our daily routine is consistently busy and engaging. We have also recently acquired a tractor to help with baling and farm work. Giving our current tractor a break from some of the larger tasks, the John Deere performed well baling but it was always a little under sized. Mater, as the kids are calling it, is an older tractor and not quite the right color that we’re used to but it’ll fit right in and be a welcome addition to the farm.

Had another busy weekend around here. Had to do a pretty in depth repair on a collector ring for one of the circles. Caught the problem right before it would have become an expensive repair all it cost us this time is a couple of hours. Did some more circle repairs on another circle extending some drops so they are easier to get unplugged, before you either had to use the tractor or stand on the headache rack of the service truck to reach the drops now you can get at them from the ground. Also moved the cows around, still patching fences up for the storm the other day. Even begun the new dog’s farm training!

A photo from last nights storm. Not many photos were taking during the clean up today but we faired fairly well. Only had the cows get out once this morning and have been without power since 9pm last night. Hopefully we get some power back sometime tonight, then we can get our irrigation back on and the water for the cows running again. Certainly glad we don’t get storms like that very often.
