06/28/2022
It is 2022, and it's been weird, but I am very glad to report that after a year off, we will be open again for certified-organic cherry picking beginning on Friday morning, July 1.
It will be a pleasure to see you all wandering among the stout trunks of our ancient trees again. Two years is a long time to have been away, and as time seems to pass faster in an old orchard, you'll probably notice the difference. I'm not sure how many more times we'll get to do this. But it's always a privilege to share the space--and this fruit--with you.
We'll hold to our usual 9-5 hours, daily (until we decide we're done, for whatever reason.) The price this year will be $2.85 per pound, reflecting increases in all costs of production as well as the light crop following such a tempestuous spring. (Snow on the flowers! A landscape of white on white... crazy.) Ripening is oddly staggered, so you'll be picking by color, almost like on a blueberry plant. And you should expect to work from a ladder--heavy cold air ensures the lower blossoms are the first to suffer, and more abundant fruit hangs toward the tops of the trees.
I'll provide updates here, or call if you have questions.
We are grateful for your support, and to be a summertime ritual for so many here in the Gorge.
