We have 2 purebred Berkshire gilts for sale. DOB is August 3. Last picture is the sow. Pasture born and raised. This was mom's first litter and she is a phenomenal mom. Would love to see these girls added to someone's breeding program but could also make great feeder pigs.

$125 each.

We are running a special on our ground burger and tenderized round steaks! 10 lbs of burger for $70. The tenderized round steaks will be 30% off. We were going to run the special today until Sunday but we will run it through this weekend AND the next (so ending on November 5). DM me and we can set up a time to meet at the farm!

On this day, we remember all the lives lost from the terrorist attack on our great nation. The 343 firefighters, 72 police officers, 2,606 civilians and 246 innocent souls on those flights. I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news. I was in middle school civics class and our teacher came in and made the announcement; it was so surreal and frightening all at the same time. The rest of the day was a blur.
Our country came together, we were not divided. We did not acknowledge our differences because, at that moment, we all were family - we were all Americans and our family had been attacked.
I pray that everyone takes a moment today to remember what happened and share with those who do not know. I pray that we can remember how to set aside our differences, work together, leave behind the hate and sow good relations.
Never forget.

I made some new friends today!!!! We wrapped some bales for our awesome baler, Chris Oelke and I had the most difficult job of keeping these girls away from the bales (it was SO difficult let me tell you 🤣). I still think the little red head should be named Reba 🤷‍♀️ and she gave me a perfect picture for tongue out Tuesday as well 😁

Happy Tongue Out Tuesday! Mr. Handsome here is looking forward to the cool down after today. We've been in the upper 90s and peaked 103 over the last few days.
We're praying that with the cool down comes some much needed rain.
Hang in there everyone. We'll make it through somehow.

Thursday and Friday I put down almost 45 acres of hay. I had a helper each day but the first day, my helper fell asleep 😴. We always have ear protection on and he was snuggled in so nice and the sun and the breeze and the sway of the tractor put him right out. Today we are raking, baling and wrapping.

Raspberry had her piglets yesterday night!! Of course she had to have them the night before a 90 degree day 🤦‍♀️ She is a 5 year old Berkshire pig and this is her first litter. We were nervous that she wouldn't be a good mom due to her age as well as the fact that her full sister did not do well as a mom. She wiped out her entire litter. Raspberry had a little difficult time relaxing and letting them nurse but finally figured out what to do and they have bonded beautifully. We have taken the other adult pigs and separated them from mom and babies so they can bond.
We will be at the Rome Farmers Market today from 9-1. Stop by for any beef, pork or raffle tickets!!

Yesterday we put down the start of second crop. I had a little helper in the tractor who kept me company too ❤️ We will be baling and wrapping it tomorrow. This year has gone from dry with little to no chance of rain, to having scattered percentages popping up throughout the week. We are not complaining but I gotta say, it makes it a little difficult to plan when to cut, bale and wrap! We don't want any of our cut hay to be rained on before we bale. Fingers crossed we plan right! 🤞

This is a sped up video of me mixing mineral for the herd. The full video is about 4 minutes long; don't mind my exercise clothes as I had just finished a run and wanted to get mineral to the herd before the day got too hot. With the dry year we've been having, the flies have been horrible. Many of the organic methods for fly control are not nearly as effective as the conventional methods and since the farm is certified organic, everything that goes into the animals has to be organic as well. We use a mix of Redmond's 10 Fine Premium Mineral Salt, organic dried kelp and K.S. organic heifer with fly control mineral. We provide the mineral, as well as a scratching post and pyrethren mixed with organic mineral oil that goes into a drip clothe that cows can rub on. All of these are on our approved list and if we want to try anything new, we have to get it approved first. We have thought of free range chickens following the herd to scratch apart the p**p and eat the flies and larva, however, living this close to the Mead Wildlife Area we would just be providing snacks for all the predators.
