What is a home?? Home is a place of habitation. It is a place of refuge, safety, warmth, and a sense of belonging and peace. When you run a business from your home, many of these feelings of home are often violated. Opening your property to the public can be very threatening to the home/business owner.
The overwhelming disrespect from many people as they come on my property is becoming quite alarming. We work very hard year after year to provide the best possible fruits to the public. The endless hours of hand weeding, many sleepless nights from frost protection, and the countless hours of being open to make picking times convenient for almost everyone, many of these tasks are overlooked and unthought of by many.
More and more we are seeing problems with respecting our farm. Countless children throwing berries at each other, children racing John Deere Powerwheels and bicycles through the blueberry patch, people disposing diapers in our port-a-potty, and bad mouthing our farm for not allowing private photographers to come on the premises to do photo shoots. Last time I recall it is not my obligation to the public to entertain such conveniences. REALLY?? And to those who badmouthed our farm that they did not get the deal from our hot sale is absolutely ridiculous. Why would we not honor our sale if you mentioned it to us? You got home and realized you didn’t mention the hot sale and then just posted it on Facebook that we didn’t honor our offer. I could go on and on.
Are the problems regarding naughty children really the children’s fault or more so with the parents who do not discipline their children and watch them disrespect other people’s property? Are they teaching respect to their children? Well on my property, if the parents of children old enough to know better, do not discipline their children, I WILL. I will not stand in silence as my HOME is under attack. Don’t come to my business, my HOME, if you cannot show some respect. I am providing a service to my community, which is not an obligation. It is a choice on my part, every year to continue to do so. Someday the choice will no longer be.
I am absolutely shattered. Entitlement is not accepted here.
Respect…if you don’t know what it means, look it up.
