This film is a good introduction to some very important issues AND solutions. This is the reason for my interest in agriculture. Please check out Kiss the Ground on Netflix.

Lamb's quarters (front bowl) is the most prolific volunteer on my garden, and likely the most nutrient dense. It's a truly incredible plant and if you let it go to seed once it will be there forever since each plant can produce tens of thousands of edible seeds. I will freeze these and have about a month's worth of green smoothies.

As for the pak choy in the back bowl, I'm thinking beef lettuce wraps with peanut sauce.

I just finished watching the documentary The Need To Grow with my kids. It's currently available to stream free at the link below.

It does good job explaining the current state of our industrial food system and presents a few of the infinite number of possibilities for generating food systems that provide for people while improving the planet.

I would have liked to see more of a focus on perennial-focused system like those we're working to develop here at our farm, but still a great film.

Can we feed the world without destroying it?! Rosario Dawson’s award-winning film The Need To GROW shows the SOLUTIONS — and the real stories of the game-changing innovators behind them. Join in the online screening for free!

Praying mantises are one of my favorite insects. They're beneficial predators and I find them damn elegant.

Ironweed is in full bloom. This native flower is a member of the Asteraceae family and helps support beneficial insects (including parasitoid wasps) and pollinators. This painted lady is on board. These photos were taken in the middle of our native polyculture orchard. What does your agriculture look like?

Another nerdy plant post. I am excited to add top-setting onions to the farm. These onions are perennial and more drought tolerant than most onion varieties. The coolest thing about them is that they form onion sets on top of their stalks instead of flowers. As the sets grow larger, the stalks tip over and a new plant is started from the top-sets when they contact the ground. The sets in my hand were cut off at the stalk I'm holding. That's sets on sets! Pretty cool.

These are the first blossoms on the sand hill plums in my native polyculture orchard. American plums also have a few blossoms. I am starting to get really excited for future harvests.
