🌷 Spring Has Sprung—Let’s Stay Safe 🌷
As we all know, spring has officially arrived! Many of us are eager to enjoy the warmer weather, which often means getting outside to tackle yard work—mowing the lawn, pulling weeds, and preparing patios for relaxing days ahead.
Before you begin these seasonal tasks, we encourage you to take a moment to consider a few important safety reminders. Taking simple precautions now can help prevent fires and keep your home and family safe throughout the season.
1. Maintain Outdoor Equipment: Inspect lawnmowers, trimmers, and other gas-powered equipment before use. Clean off debris, check for leaks, and store fuel in approved containers away from ignition sources. If you have any defective equipment, fix it first. Do not let any needed repairs wait.
2. Clear Yard Debris Safely: Remove dry leaves, branches, and debris from around your home, decks, and sheds. Keep at least a 3–5 foot “defensible space” to reduce fire risk.
3. Use Grills and Fire Pits Responsibly: Place grills at least 10-15 feet away from structures and never leave them unattended. Ensure fire pits are at least 20 feet from any structure and are fully extinguished after use. Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from hot surfaces.
4. Check Electrical Equipment: Inspect outdoor extension cords, lighting, and power tools for damage. Avoid overloading outlets and replace worn or frayed cords immediately.
5. Store Flammable Materials Properly: Keep gasoline, propane, paint, and chemicals in labeled, approved containers. Store them in well-ventilated areas away from heat sources and living spaces.
6. Test Smoke and CO Alarms, practice your home escape plan: Spring is the perfect time to test all alarms in your home. Making sure that everyone knows what to do when the alarm sounds. Remember, seconds count…
Taking these simple precautions can help prevent fires and keep your home and family safe throughout the season.
