SOME THINGS ARE WORTH MORE THAN MONEY, AND SOME THINGS CAN’T BE LEARNED FROM A BOOK.

Around Old Stonehouse Farm, some of life’s greatest lessons have been passed down through generations.

Learning when the hay is ready by watching the sky. Knowing when a cow needs attention. Planting a garden, preserving the harvest, mending fences, and making something last.

Our father knew the fields and the hay. Our mother knew the garden, the chickens, and the kitchen. Our grandfather knew the value of growing your own food and sharing what you had.

Those lessons weren’t learned in a classroom. They were learned through years of hard work, patience, and experience.

And what they handed down was worth far more than the land itself.

It was the knowledge of how to care for it.

When family farms disappear, we risk losing generations of wisdom that money simply can’t replace.

Here at Old Stonehouse Farm, we’re doing our best to keep those traditions alive.

Because the greatest inheritance isn’t always what we leave behind. It’s what we teach the next generation to carry forward. ❤️

FAMILY ISN’T ALWAYS ABOUT BLOOD. SOMETIMES IT’S ABOUT WHO FINDS A PLACE AT YOUR TABLE. ❤️

Here at Old Stonehouse Farm, we’ve always believed that family is about more than the branches of a family tree.

It’s the neighbors who become friends, the friends who become family, and the people who wander into your life and somehow find a permanent place in your heart.

It’s the ones who stop by for a cup of coffee and stay for supper. The ones who know their way around your kitchen, lend a hand when there’s work to be done, and show up when you need them without ever being asked.

Over the years, our old stone house has welcomed plenty of people through its doors. Some were born into our family. Others simply became part of it.

We’ve shared meals, stories, laughter, tears, and more than a few conversations around the kitchen table.

And somewhere along the way, those friendships became something much more.

Because family isn’t always the people you’re born with. Sometimes it’s the people life brings to your doorstep who decide to stay.

And around our table, there’s always room for one more. ❤️

Cinnamon — A Little Spice, A Little Mystery, and a Thousand Memories

There was a time when cinnamon was a treasure from faraway lands, wrapped in mystery and valued almost as dearly as gold. Ancient spice merchants guarded the secrets of its origins, carrying it along distant trade routes and across oceans, where its rarity only added to its allure.

The ancient Egyptians treasured cinnamon and other fragrant spices for perfumes, sacred ceremonies, and embalming rituals. Kings and wealthy households prized its intoxicating fragrance, never imagining that one day it would become a familiar comfort in ordinary kitchens.

And to think, all that magic comes from the delicate inner bark of a tree.

At Old Stonehouse Farm, cinnamon still works a little magic of its own.

It’s the sweet fragrance of snickerdoodle cookies rolled in cinnamon sugar, apple butter slowly simmering on the stove, and fresh apple c***r warming on a chilly autumn afternoon. It’s cinnamon-sugar doughnuts, still warm to the touch, and soft, buttery cinnamon buns rising patiently before finding their way into the oven.

But perhaps cinnamon’s greatest gift is its ability to awaken memories.

One familiar fragrance can carry us back decades, to a grandmother’s kitchen, a wooden spoon resting beside a bubbling pot, warm cookies cooling on the counter, or family gathered around the kitchen table.

Somehow, cinnamon lingers somewhere between memory and imagination, bringing back people, places, and moments we thought we’d forgotten.

Centuries ago, merchants crossed oceans and guarded secrets to bring cinnamon to the world. Today, we open the oven door, breathe in that familiar sweetness, and discover that a little of its mystery still remains.

Because the true magic of cinnamon isn’t simply in its flavor, but in the memories it brings home.

🌻 A Little Sunshine Saved for Spring

There’s a certain satisfaction in gathering seeds from your own garden, especially when you remember just how much effort went into growing them.

Our sunflowers are ready for their autumn harvest. The bright yellow blossoms that filled the garden all summer have faded, leaving behind heavy seed heads that we’ll cut and hang in the barn to dry.

Getting them to this point was quite an adventure! Spring brought several rounds of planting, along with a rabbit who apparently had a particular fondness for sunflower seedlings. Every time we thought we had a good start, we’d discover another row of little plants had disappeared.

Fortunately, persistence paid off, and by midsummer the garden was filled with towering sunflowers, their golden blooms soaking up the sunshine and adding a beautiful splash of color to the farm.

Now, instead of flowers, we’re gathering seeds. Some for the birds, and plenty to tuck away for next year’s planting.

It’s a wonderful part of growing things yourself. The garden gives back a little of what you put into it, and the end of one growing season becomes the beginning of another.

And somewhere around the farm, there’s probably a rabbit already looking forward to spring!

🌻 To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.

🥩 STEAK MAY GET THE ATTENTION, BUT GROUND BEEF GETS SUPPER ON THE TABLE! ❤️

We are fully stocked!

Around Old Stonehouse Farm, we certainly appreciate a good ribeye sizzling in the skillet.

But there’s something to be said for a package of homegrown ground beef waiting in the freezer when five o’clock rolls around and nobody’s thought about supper.

A pot of chili simmering on the stove, homemade meatloaf with mashed potatoes, spaghetti with Mom’s tomato sauce, or hamburgers sizzling on the grill.

Nothing fancy. Just good, honest food that brings everyone to the table.

Ground beef has always been a staple in the farmhouse kitchen. It’s dependable, versatile, and has a way of turning a handful of simple ingredients into a meal everyone remembers.

Our homegrown beef is raised right here on the farm, with the same care and dedication we’ve given our cattle for generations.

Because while a good steak makes a special occasion, ground beef makes a hundred ordinary suppers something special. ❤️
