Cincinnati Regional Chamber 2026 We Are Making Black History Honoree
Shauna Murphy | Superintendent, Cincinnati Public Schools
Superintendent Shauna Murphy leads Cincinnati Public Schools, serving 35,000 students and 6,500 employees across 66 schools. Appointed permanently on November 18, 2024, she guides one of Ohio’s largest public school districts with experience, vision, and an unwavering focus on student achievement.
A Cincinnati native, Superintendent Murphy brings more than 34 years in education. Her career reflects progression through nearly every level of school leadership. She began as a substitute teacher with Cincinnati Public Schools, later teaching English at her alma mater, Purcell Marian High School, where she also served as Academic Dean. She returned to CPS to continue her leadership journey at the School for Creative and Performing Arts.
She has served as principal of Hyde Park Elementary, Quebec Heights Elementary, and Woodward Career Technical High School. As Assistant Superintendent and later Chief of Student, Family and Community Engagement, she strengthened community partnerships, expanded parent engagement, and championed career and technical education pathways across district high schools.
When appointed Interim Superintendent in May 2024, she brought a track record of improving academic outcomes, optimizing resources, balancing budgets, and building collaborative relationships with educators, unions, families, and stakeholders. Her permanent appointment reflected both results and trust.
She holds a Bachelor of Science from Ohio University, Master of Education degrees from Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati, and superintendent licensure from the University of Dayton.
From classroom teacher to superintendent, her leadership reflects a steadfast belief in public education as a catalyst for opportunity. That commitment to excellence and collaboration makes Superintendent Shauna Murphy a 2026 We Are Making Black History honoree.
