Hi everyone! This is not the update we thought we would be making or want to be making, but our blueberry crop for Saturday is going to be even more limited than we anticipated.

Unfortunately, the birds have really gone after the ripe berries (and even broken some canes on the bushes)🀦πŸ˜₯

We have already put so much work into preparing to open - and just today made *lots* of our yummy blueberry mint lemonade - so we're still going to open and we hope to see you!!

We hope you'll come say hi, pick a few berries, enjoy some of our delicious blueberry mint lemonade and blueberry buckle, and check out our awesome farm shirts etc. We have picnic tables if you'd like to bring a lunch!

We were assessing things in the blueberry patch today and are, unfortunately, still estimating our crop losses from the spring freezes to be about 80-90%.

We are hoping to open next Saturday the 13th...if the birds don't get the berries first 🀦🀞This is not confirmed yet so please make sure to check back here or check our website before coming out!

We are really hoping we can welcome all of you back to the farm, keep the blueberry picking tradition going, and toast the start of summer with some of our famous blueberry mint lemonade. πŸ˜‹

Picking will be limited but the berries are delicious as always πŸ’•

If you would like to support the patch during this difficult season, we are currently running a pre-order sale on our website (https://www.hobbithillfarm.com/category/all-products)

Thank you ❀️🫐

June is blueberry season 🫐❀️

And after everything this spring, we’re feeling more and more hopeful that we *will* be able to open this summer πŸŽ‰

We’re excited to keep the tradition going and celebrate the start of summer break with blueberry mint lemonade and seeing all of you back in the patch again πŸ₯Ή

However, this season *will* still look different. If you've been following along, you probably know that the spring freezes caused significant crop losses. Picking will be limited compared to previous years β€” we don't know exactly what that will look like yet, but we are so thankful for the berries that have survived ❀️

We also want to say THANK YOU for the continued support of our pre-order sale. Every order helps us continue the work happening in the patch to care for the blueberry plants and prepare for future harvests 🫐

This strawberry jam was a gift we received yesterday from a little boy - his mom told me that he was sad about the blueberry patch and that we wouldn't be able to make blueberry jam this year so he hoped we'd like some of this strawberry jam he made instead 😭🫐❀️

It's moments like these that remind us that the world is a beautiful place πŸ₯Ή

Although we have lost the bulk of our crop this year, we are hoping we'll have enough blueberries to open a little bit.

You can join our e-mail list at hobbithillfarm.com if you'd like updates and check out our pre-order sale in our online store to support the patch.

Hard seasons pass 🫐 Community lasts ❀️ We can't thank you all enough.

This season is reminding us just how much farming teaches you to believe in tomorrow ❀️

Our online pre-order sale is now open to help support the blueberry patch during this very uncertain season 🫐
https://www.hobbithillfarm.com/category/all-products

As many of you know, the hard freezes this spring caused major damage to our blueberry crop. Walking the patch, we’re seeing lots of blooms that never developed… and thankfully, still some fruit growing too 🫐 They're beautiful 😍

At this point, we believe we may have lost as much as 80-90% of the crop. It’s heartbreaking, but we are incredibly grateful that some berries survived β€” and we are still hopeful we’ll be able to open for picking in some way this season 🀞

Right now, we just don’t know exactly what that will look like yet. Maybe a short weekend season, maybe a few picking days here and there depending on what ripens. We’re watching the patch closely and hoping to share whatever berries we have (as well as our blueberry mint lemonade, blueberry buckle, and summer joy) with all of you ❀️

One of our favorite quotes β€” and one we have printed on some of our merchandise this year β€” is:
β€œTo plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.”

That feels especially true this season.

Even in difficult years, the work continues β€” caring for the plants, tending the soil, preparing for future harvests, and believing there will be good seasons ahead 🫐

Our online merchandise pre-order sale was created to help carry the patch through this difficult season and prepare for next year’s crop. Every shirt, hat, sticker, print, share, and kind message truly means so much to us.

You can shop the preorder sale here:
https://www.hobbithillfarm.com/category/all-products

We plan to keep the sale open for a few more weeks and have items ready for pick up or shipping the beginning of July.

Thank you for continuing to support our organic blueberry patch through both the abundant seasons and the hard ones. We are so grateful for this community ❀️

Want to see something exciting and happy?? 😊 New shoots/canes and new growth on the blueberry plants. πŸŽ‰πŸ«πŸ˜

Yes, yes I'm a nerd I know. πŸ˜‚ But how could I spend soooo much time with these plants if I didn't love them and get excited about them? ❀️

This new growth happens every year, but I still get excited about it each time because it literally *shows* me how happy and healthy the blueberry plants are.

This time of year I walk around the patch like "look at that one! Ooooo now look at that one!" πŸ˜†πŸ€£

Just a little extra info for extra curious folks....the new shoots are sort of fragile when they come up - if you tried to bend them in half they would easily snap and break - but over the course of the summer they grow a foot or two (and sometimes as much as 3 feet or more!) and become woody. Then, next March, we choose the nicest of the new canes to keep. Each year when we prune, we remove some old/broken/less productive canes and chose a few of the new canes from the summer to keep. In that way, we are always gradually cycling canes. This helps spread out the bloom time somewhat (since different age canes flower at slightly different times) and keep the plant productive. ❀️
