🐴🍻 Meet the Black & Brew Team — Coal and Rod!

Coal traded farm chores for wedding bells as the beverage burro at a beautiful wedding at Pegasus Manor! With his flower-filled baskets and fancy white hoof cuffs, our handsome boy was dressed for the occasion. 🤵✨

Those adorable cuffs came with a little extra kindness from Pet Supply. I called to ask whether they had any dog wedding cuffs that might work for Coal. The lovely owner said they had made them for years, thought she had one pair left, and would gladly donate them!

Such a thoughtful gift—and the perfect finishing touch for our four-legged wedding helper. Thank you for helping Coal look his best! 🐴🥂

🔧🚜 Open Farm Learning Day: Farm Mechanics!

Have a kid who loves figuring out how things work? We’re welcoming additional kids to join us at Lil’ Bit of Life this Monday for our Farm Mechanics Workshop!

We’ll explore tools and safety, learn about servicing a tractor or lawnmower, and discover how we maintain and repair equipment around the farm. It’s a chance to ask questions, build practical skills, and see what keeps a farm running!

📅 Monday, October 12
⏰ 10 AM–around noon
💵 $60 per participant
📍 2920 Robie Avenue, Mount Dora

Please arrive 15–20 minutes early, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring water. Pack a lunch if you’d like to stay afterward!

Rain, rain… we’ve had enough for today! 🌧️🐾

These two found the perfect spot to spend an all-day rainy day—side by side in the barn doorway, keeping their paws dry and watching the farm. Pretty sure they’re discussing who’s going to check the weather first… and neither is volunteering! 😂

Almost eight years ago, this little drawing was made for a patient. As we waited patiently for her to come out and meet the animals, I found myself thinking about the gift inside every one of us. 🐴✨

Sometimes that gift is creativity. Sometimes it’s a listening ear, a gentle touch, or simply taking the time to make someone feel seen.

Every day, someone needs a little extra—extra patience, extra encouragement, extra kindness. We may never know what they’re carrying, but we can help make their day a little lighter.

I absolutely love listening in on stall-cleaning conversations. I’m pretty sure these kids could solve the world’s problems with a pitchfork in hand! 😂🐴

Our FarmSchool and Pony Pals kids worked so hard to get Blaze’s stall as dry and comfortable as possible with all this saturated weather. They understood how important it was for him to have a clean, dry place to rest—and they took that responsibility seriously.

When I asked how they felt after finishing, their cheers and bedding tossed into the air said it all! 🙌 They were proud, excited, and happy knowing they had made a difference for Blaze.

Sometimes the biggest lessons happen during the messiest jobs: teamwork, compassion, responsibility, and the wonderful feeling of knowing your hard work matters. These kids are learning what it means to care for someone who depends on them. 🐴

Our G.R.I.T.S. 4-H kids and Farm-School students can’t wait to share a fun evening on the farm with you all!

🚜 Enjoy a hayride by lantern light
🌭 Roast your own hot dog over the fire pit
✨ Play glow games and explore our glow stick trail
🐴 Enjoy pony rides under the lights
🎃 Meet some farm friends dressed in festive costumes
🗺️ Follow the map, collect stickers, and earn a surprise!

Emily is making a big impression!

🐷 ANIMAL SCIENCE — DIGESTION: WEEK 1!

Today we kicked off our brand-new Digestion Unit by following The Journey of Food: From Bite to Waste!

We didn’t just talk about digestion — we modeled the entire process ourselves! 🧪

The girls started by “chewing” their food through mechanical digestion, added liquid to represent saliva and digestive juices, churned everything together to create chyme, and then sent it through our very glamorous 😂 “small intestine” to model nutrient absorption.

And judging by some of these faces… the final stage of digestion was definitely memorable. 🤣

Along the way we learned about the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, re**um, and a**s, plus some BIG science words like peristalsis, chyme, villi, absorption, mechanical digestion, and chemical digestion.

We also talked about how differently God designed animals to process their food — from cows and horses to pigs and chickens — which is exactly where we’ll be heading next in this unit!

Every part has a purpose. Every person has a purpose.

Such a fun (and slightly disgusting 😂) way to start our Digestion Unit! 🐄🐴🐷🐔🔬
