Now you may be asking, “Jessica, why are you sharing a picture of your dirty dishes?!” 😂

Well, I get asked pretty often if we actually eat everything I can.

And that question always makes me laugh a little because… why would I go through ALL that work just to look at the jars on the shelf?! 😂

So here’s a real-life example.

Tonight for supper we’re having pork chops, corn, green beans, carrots, and fried potatoes.

Everything on our plates tonight—except the pork chops—came from jars we processed and preserved ourselves. ❤️

This is why I can.

Not just for pretty shelves or rows of colorful jars, but so that on an ordinary night, I can walk into our pantry, grab what we need, and put a home-preserved meal on the table for my family.

And those “dirty dishes” are actually empty canning jars ready to be washed and filled all over again. 🥰

That’s the part of homesteading you don’t always see. ❤️

Just a regular Wednesday morning around our kitchen table. 🏡📚❤️

One of the things I love most about homeschooling is that learning gets to be woven right into our everyday life.

It doesn’t always look pretty. Some days everyone is focused and we knock it out. Some days somebody can’t find a pencil even though I KNOW we own approximately 4,732 of them. 😂 Some days we fly through a lesson…and other days we spend 45 minutes trying to understand something that “should” have taken 10.

But THIS is why we homeschool.

Not because I think I can recreate a classroom better at my kitchen table.

But because I don’t have to. ❤️

We can slow down when something is hard. We can keep going when something sparks their interest. We can take a random Tuesday off and learn on a Saturday. We can read together, cook together, garden, preserve food, travel, talk about God, ask a million questions and let life itself become part of their education.

We’ve been homeschooling since 2019, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that homeschool doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.

It just has to work for YOUR family.

And around here, sometimes it looks exactly like this. 🥰

A kid at the kitchen table, a book cracked open, a lesson playing on the computer…and Mama nearby probably reheating her coffee for the third time. 😂☕️

A friend recently told me about a website where you could scan your skin care / cleaning / laundry products for toxicity.

I found the app and it’s been so helpful!

We switched over to more natural products many years ago, but there are certain things I still struggle with. Having a little girl after 5 boys, new products are needed.

This detangling spray I was happy to scan and find out it was rated a 3 we try to stay between 1-3 on personal care items. And what’s even better I found it at Dollar Tree 🙌
