Seed Profile: Beans

I had a wonderful chat with a woman in Shepherdsville last year who was an avid gardener herself and wanted to share her heirloom beans with me. Meet the Speckled Dixie Butterpea and Biloxi Crowder! It took a lot of restraint to not boil myself up a pot because we eat a LOT of beans in this house. These gorgeous seeds are taking off fast in our soil blocks and I hope to continue propagating these heirlooms and collecting seeds that are best suited for our climate here in Kentucky.

The CSA is live and taking members! We'll be keeping the group relatively small for our inaugural CSA to ensure excellent service. Shout out to Vibe Coffee for generously allowing us to host pickups on-site at their Hodgenville and Etown locations. Serena and Mike go above and beyond to support fellow small businesses and we couldn't be more grateful.

A big thanks to my brother Marco for taking my awful Canva design and making a solid poster for us. The bird on our emblem is a flicker which is a small unassuming woodpecker. They show up when spring arrives on the farm and promptly start giving themselves concussions to make their homes. Banging your head against a wall until you get results resonated with me on a visceral level, and I couldn't think of a better icon to represent our low-till, hand-tool driven operation.

We're lucky to have a neighbor like Horse and Hound Supply. They'll be supplying the bulk of our compost this year and live right around the block. Each shovel full brought more worms (coworkers) and high quality organic matter into our soil. Can't wait to see how the plants take to it!
