Winter on the Farm.. February 2025! Spring is not far away! It’s been a long cold cold cold winter in Ohio. We lost a lot of birds but this gives us a chance to start an adding younger birds as our older seeds mostly lost during the Artic Freeze.

Not sure if our chickens will slow down with the snow and cold temperatures but I have upped their feed, and all are cozy. If you need eggs send me a message, they won’t be in the egg stand if temperatures are below freezing so the eggs do not crack. 4$ a dozen for duck eggs or chicken eggs. We still have Free Calico kitties! We have 3 needing homes (they are barn cats and have been outside since they could climb out of their inside kitten basket) also we have a female mom and her 1 kitten. Her kitten is only 3 weeks old so still nursing. If you love calicos please consider adopting one of ours which have been handled by kids since they were born! They would make great indoor companions or great mousers!

If there is one thing I have learned from being super sick from a stomach flair up from a virus is BONE BROTH! My body was fighting not only a rare fungal infection but also a viral infection) So I boiled down one of our meat chickens for 2 days.. strained and canned my own bone broth! Not only is this broth so delicious (I add a lot of seasoning herbs as well) but it is chalk full of vitamins, minerals, fats, all the things our bodies need when fighting off illness! I use this broth in place of water to make so many things like rice, even potatoes (mashed is amazing with broth instead of milk which can make mucus type colds thicker and harder to clear from the respiratory track) and of course soups which have literally saved me this past month. Checking in our honey bees (they seem to be staying cozy despite the cold temperatures), making cranberry sour dough bread, boiled one of our meat chickens for this weeks meal planning and to make more bone broth, the pellet stove is the best for helping my sour dough rise. If you need sour dough starter I sell it in my egg stand.
