We’re getting ready to purchase our piglets for our fall harvest date!
If your freezer will be ready for a whole or half hog come September - October, could you let us know in the comments that you’d be interested?
This will help us determine how many piglets to purchase and raise! Thank you so much!

This is something we have taken a deep dive into this year! We have become “manure connoisseurs”. I shared in our stories a few days ago about adding DDG (Dried Distiller Grains) and baleage (wet wrapped hay) to our ration this winter and this is why: the herd needed more protein! Their manure was stacking instead of looking like a pancake.

This post by Mountain Valley explains it well!

Nutrition is EVERYTHING for a healthy herd!

Let’s talk about Nitrates and Nitrites!

If you’ve heard in recent news, the WHO (World Health Organization) has just released that deli ham, bacon, and other processed meats are now classified as a group one carcinogen. The same classification as to***co, arsenic, and asbestos.

It’s not the meat itself that’s carcinogenic, it’s the chemicals used during the curing and processing. Two of the main cancer-causing ingredients being nitrates and nitrites.

Nitrates and Nitrites: Used as preservatives, they convert N-nitroso compounds (NOCs) in the gut, which can damage DNA and increase cancer risk.

As farmers or homesteaders, it’s unfortunate when you spend so much time and effort raising animals the way they should be raised; out on pasture, nongmo, organic etc. But then to have them processed with these chemicals!

We are happy that the WHO has released this information, but THANKFULLY this is not new news to us! We have been nitrate free for nearly 14 years. This is a non-negotiable for us as a farm!
All of our meat is naturally cured WITHOUT nitrates and nitrites (unless you choose otherwise when customizing your wholesale cuts, but we always encourage you to choose nitrate-free).

This is something we are very passionate about and a hill we will die on; bringing wholesome food to the tables in our customer’s homes. This means the entire process from the life and care of the animals to the way it is processed and packaged.

Thank you all for supporting our farm and we look forward to continuing our work in bringing healthy food to your tables!lh

New life on the farm is our favorite thing! We welcomed a heifer calf to the world this morning out of RV Saddle Point x PFF Chill Muchacho. This heifer has potential! She’s out of some of our best milkers and most correct cows. Saddle Point is such a beautiful cow out of Saddlehorn bringing in some of the greats like Top Caliber and HCR! She has an udder of a goddess which is proven in her lineage dating back to Wi******er. This heifer’s paternal granddam also dates back to Wi******er and is a picture of perfection from head to foot; an amazing milker, perfect feet, clean lines, fertile, motherly, calves easily…just the complete package and was our very first longhorn.
This heifer is special and we can’t wait to watch her grow! You might want to keep your eyes on this one!
