We've been a little absent from the page lately, but to be honest, we're surviving, not thriving. 😅

Mother Nature decided to bless us with rain for days on end, and now we're playing catch-up with more rain in the forecast.

Nate's wrapping up his seed corn run, Curt's gotten our own harvest rolling at home, and we're currently down a driver, a semi, and a hopper bottom. We've already had our fair share of breakdowns, the cows still need moved home, and calves need weaned.

Seems like every time we get one thing crossed off the to-do list, three more get added. The days aren't long enough, and just when we think we're making progress, something else knocks us back a step.

But really, things could be worse. And no matter how many times we get knocked down, we keep getting back up.

There's plenty to be thankful for, and at the end of the day, we're just grateful that everyone is safe and that we get to keep doing what we love, alongside the people we love.

So, Happy National Farmers Day to all the farmers out there, but especially to our guys who keep putting in the hours and grinding away even when the going gets tough.

Before you lay your head on your pillow tonight, say a prayer for all the farmers out there working hard to get the job done this harvest season. Pray for their safety, for a successful harvest, and most importantly, that they make it home to their families each and every night. ❤️🌽

We hope you’re all enjoying the long Labor Day weekend. 🇺🇸

Farming is a 365-day, 24/7 job. The cattle still need fed and checked. Harvest prep must keep moving forward. And Nate’s still behind the wheel, trucking that seed corn down the road.

That’s what Labor Day is all about - recognizing the value of hard work and the people who keep showing up to do it.

This is the life we choose, because to us, it’s worth it.

So today, we’re grateful for the work, the people beside us, and the life that work makes possible. 💚

We loaded up a few of our calves on the trailer and shipped them east out to West Virginia!

365 days, 4 hours, and 5 minutes ago, our lives changed in an instant…again.

8.2K shares. A “viral” Facebook post. Hundreds of text messages, Facebook messages and phone calls pouring in from across the county, the state and the country. We will never forget the way this community rallied around our family that day and in all the days that followed.

This is a tough one for us to share, but we feel like we have to. We need to keep spreading awareness, especially with harvest season upon us and more tractors, combines, and farm equipment out on the road.

If sharing what happened to our family can save even one family from going through what we have, it will mean the world to us.

So here’s our PSA: ⬇️

That farmer you’re sharing the road with? They’re someone’s whole world. Someone’s spouse. Someone’s parent. Someone’s son or daughter. Someone’s grandparent. Someone who is expected home at the end of the day.

Move over. Slow down. Be patient. PAY ATTENTION. We’re literally begging you. 🙏

We know nobody wants to share the road with farm equipment. And truthfully, if we had a choice, we wouldn’t be out there either. We’d much rather be in the field, doing our job, rather than traveling the roads between jobs with traffic flying past us, impatient and careless drivers trying to get around us.

But this is our job. There’s nothing we can do to avoid it. Getting home at the end of the day should NEVER be a question.

It’s been a year of surgeries, setbacks, challenges and a whole lot of things none of us ever expected to face. Life doesn’t look the same as it did a year ago, and Wayne has missed out on some pretty big moments along the way.

But we thank God every single day that he’s still here.

Clearly, his job here isn’t finished yet.

There’s still a long road ahead, but Wayne has made it this far. So he’ll keep moving forward, one day at a time.

To our neighbors, family, and friends - thank you. For the prayers, the messages, the meals, the visits, the help, and for simply showing up when we all needed you most. Your love and support over this past year has been felt every step of the way.

One year later, and the number one lesson we’ve learned is that sometimes the biggest blessing is simply getting more time.💚

Today’s a big day. Kind of like the first day of school…except this time there’s no school bus, no new backpack, and you’re required to leave the farm and be out on the road for a stretch that’s probably a little longer than any of us would like.

We put some time in over the weekend getting the semi and trailer ready to hit the road early this morning. Nate’s headed out on his annual run hauling seed corn.

Seed corn is harvested on the ear at around 35% moisture and hauled straight to the plant, where it’s husked, sorted and prepared for storage. Nate gets to be one small piece of a process that eventually comes full circle - from the field, through the plant, and back into the ground on farms like ours again next spring.

By the time he gets home, we’ll already be picking corn ourselves - so he’ll shift gears and head out to find the combine.

He’ll be missed around here, but I’m sure Curt will be just fine (even if he thinks differently😉), and we’ll call in the B-team to check cows every morning.

💛💙Have you heard?!💙💛

This school year, Mount Vernon Community School District was able to start an agriculture program - and with it, the opportunity to bring FFA to Mount Vernon for the first time.

And honestly, this means a lot to us.

It means more opportunities for the kids in our community to learn about agriculture, get hands-on experience, explore careers, and maybe even find a passion they didn’t know they had. We’re so grateful to our school board and administration for believing in the value of agriculture education and making this possible.

Taylor was approached and asked to serve on the advisory committee to help the program get off the ground, and it was an easy yes. We’ve always believed in finding ways to give back to our community and doing our part to leave things a little better than we found them.

We’re incredibly excited to be a small part of this and help the next generation learn about - and hopefully love - agriculture as much as we do.

Here’s where you come in…🫵
For this program and the new FFA chapter to really succeed, it’s going to take a community.

We were able to purchase a greenhouse much quicker than we ever expected (which is a pretty awesome problem to have😉), and now comes the part of getting it up and running so these students can actually use it.

WYD Wednesday? 👀

We’ve just been out here hauling all kinds of livestock and putting some miles on the trailer. We hauled cattle to the locker for a fellow farmer this morning. And tonight? A group of pigs are headed north to fill our freezers. 🐷🥩

That’s what we’re up to today. And if you’re wondering why you haven’t seen much from us lately… sweet corn season wrapped up, and the content creator team took a little break. Okay, we *might* also be in need of a little brainstorming. 😬

But trust me, that definitely doesn’t mean we’ve been sitting around doing nothing. These Novak men don’t know how to sit still.

So… whadda u been doin’? 👀
