Proposed legislation, HB 2129, may limit your county's autonomy in determining its own agritourism policies. Regardless of one's stance on agritourism or regulatory measures, it is logical to conclude that local authorities are better equipped to handle these matters. Skagit County has dedicated considerable time and effort over the past six years to collaborating with local farmers and venue operators in developing tailored regulations. However, HB 2129, introduced by State Representative Sam Low (R39), would potentially strip counties of their authority to utilize special use permits and impose temporary moratoriums, such as the one implemented in Skagit County last year. In my opinion, county-level governance is more effective in addressing these issues than state-level intervention. I urge you to take note of this development.
