It's a lazy day, soaking up the sunshine here at Jerktail and JHT Farms. Spring calving has been an adventure and a wet one at that. We have many exciting calves coming on in both the registered and commercial herds and we cannot wait to see what they do!

Jerktail Farms, an interesting name that sparks just a bit of curiosity. Where would such a name come from? The story passed down from one old farmer to another.. The story takes place back in the small township of Jerktail Missouri. There was a small country store and back then many of the people stopping had their dogs in they vehicles with them. The story goes that the store owners young boy would go around and terrorize the customers dogs by pulling and yanking on the dogs tail, thus striking the name Jerktail. Since then the name and the story has been adapted by Don Stewart to include a farmer and a stubborn ole donkey to really emphasize the name.

Jerktail farms was started in 1995 by J. Don Stewart. Through his hard work and dedication, he has been able to select and breed fine quality genetics, based off of the best Charolais and Gelbvieh genetics he could find; this is also reflected in his commercial herd. His love and passion is instilled into his daughter and is now translated into her and her husbands work through their own farm, JHT Farms. Together they work on continually improving both the commercial and registered herd genetics through artificial insemination, consistent perseverance, excellent nutrition, and a passion to contribute to the cattle industry something to be proud of.
