It’s 2:38am. I can’t sleep because I have this vision imprinted in my head… and 2:30 in the morning is apparently when the noise stops enough in this busy world for me to think.
And, yeah, I hate ai also, but I just had to see it…
… A vision board, if you will.
What you see is my vision:
I have watched my Dad, Dale, share his passion and art of cooking, and although it was never my own expression of art, I appreciate it immensely.
…I appreciate the ability of him to take something that seems ordinary, and make someone’s eyes pop open when take a bite of something he took years to perfect. It’s simply amazing to me. With that said, I am so proud of you Dad.
My Dad has always wanted a simple life. I literally wrote a song for him called “Simple Life”, lol.
And maybe I am wrong to light a fire in his life by rekindling the flame we started a few years back in a tiny caboose (“the thimble” is what he referred to it as) tucked into the side of the Highway in Gassville, Arkansas a few years back. lol.
But what went wrong is that I couldn’t stay and help him, and the man worked himself to the bone, everyday, up at 2:30am, like right now, to make Cinnamon Rolls for all of his loyal customers. By the time he turned on his OPEN sign at 6:00am, he had been up for hours, alone, doing it all, and continued until 7:00pm to prepare for the next day…
… A man in his 50’s who works hard, and I mean works hard, can only do that for so long alone before his fire burns out. And I wish I could have been there to make sure that didn’t happen.
But….
I am here, Fran is here, and we are working hard, i mean hard, to make this dream still happen, without breaking my Old Man. lol.
So, with that said, we will keep going, one $5 Fried Pie at a time, saving the profits to make this dream come true.
And, you all can help also if you want this dream to manifest in Our Community. A simple, yet elegant, 50’s Diner with a big ‘ole DOE Boy Express train sitting on the top.
The nostalgic chrome tables and chairs, with the Waitress who refills your coffee while you eat your Cinnamon Roll or Breakfast Burrito.
Open 24 hours per day in case you get a case of insomnia like me, back to the simple life, back to the 50’s, to step back into a world my generation only got to see in black and white.
A place where my Dad can carry on his tips and tricks to someone else who is doing the hard work, with the old fashioned recipes, while he gets to sit back and have a cup of coffee and enjoy the fruit of all his hard work.
So if you see the DBExpress Train Logo, with a tent and a beautiful young woman and I, come and stop by and grab a Fried Pie. We can’t wait to see this pop up, maybe on the same Highway where it all began….
I love you Dad, I love you Fran, and I love all of you and the support you have given us over the years.
We hope to see you soon. Keep an eye out for us.
Thank you, and maybe I will be able to get a few hours of sleep. ❤️.
Goodnight everyone, and we hope to see you on Wednesday and Saturday at the farmers market. We will update you on our other locations and times as we figure that out!
