Hi everyone, I just wanted to give a quick shout out to my followers and thank you for giving my page a follow! We are small and I don't always post a lot but I wanted to share some of what I've been working on .
I've had chickens for over 10 years but didn't really start working on specific breeds until 2024. I've been very picky and doing a lot of research on the breeds and trying to learn the SOPs . This year we went thru the process and now my flocks are PT Clean and we've received our NPIP number, so in late 2026 I'll start doing some test shipments so that I'm ready for the 2027 spring season.
I've cut my flock pens down to only 2 in the last few months and will be adding a 3rd maybe 4th once all these chicks grow out and I see who makes the cut.
My current silverrudds blue flocks are from Feather shack farms that includes wheaten marans and welsummers for some pretty speckled olives . My BBS Copper Marans are also from Feather shack farms, with them I have a few olive eggers and Ameraucanas for some back crosses and first generation olives.
I've added more Silverrudds from Evergreen Acres and Timber Hill Farms to add to their genetics and diversity. These eggs were gorgeous with speckles. I've added Black Copper Marans from Evergreen Acres and Farmstead Provision and Blue Copper Marans from Flock on the Forty. My Marans flock will be covered by 2 Blue Copper Marans roosters.
This week's hatches were the last of what Im adding, Welsummers, from Timber Hill Farms and Broke Barn Bird Farm. These eggs were awesome with lots of speckles and some with really good tericota color . I've separated and banded the welsummers so I know which chicks hatched from the speckled and bloomy eggs!! I have 16 to watch grow and pick from
It's a little chaotic right now with 3 brooders in the house and grow outs outside but I can't wait to see how these babies grow and getting a better idea of what 2027 will look like my little homestead.
