It’s Bull turn out week here at Atkinson Cattle & Beef .
2 year old Angus Bull turned out with Hereford Cows to create Black Baldies calves.
Hereford Bulls turned out with Angus & Wangus Cows to create Black Baldies calves .
On Friday, after a breeding soundness exam by our Vet.,
4 - Wangus bulls will be turned out with 50 heifers to create Black Baldie calves with hopefully60 lb birth weights & extreme Marbling.
We still have 3 Hereford Bulls for Sale & 2 Black Baldie Bulls for Sale.

Beautiful Saturday from the Cow Pen. Two new calves this morning. Black Baldie heifer calf. Her sire a Innisfail 4013 son ranks in the top 1% for Marbling. The second calf was a steer calf off of Yon Fireball that ranks in the top 3% for Marbling.

Good morning from the Cow Pen. Today’s topic is Crossbreeding: No matter what breed of cow you might have , unless you’re a Purebred SeedStock Producer creating Bulls to sell , you need to be crossbreeding .
Studies have proven that you gain extra pounds from the Heterosis of the cross .
Sometimes called the only Free Lunch that a Cattleman gets.
As you can see in my pictures this morning, we bred Hereford cows & Black Baldy cows to Angus Bulls . We also breed Angus base cows to Hereford Bulls.
The results is a heavier calf at weaning time , than a straight bred calf . And in today’s market any extra pounds adds up into nothing to sneeze at.

The Difference of two breeds:
This morning was the 1st time in 4 years that I got this UltraBlack Cow’s calf tagged.
She normally puts up enough of a fight that her calf normally doesn’t get a tag until they go through the working pens.
On the other hand, our Hereford Cattle just back up & let us tag & band their calf with no problem.

We have made it to the time of the year that is our toughest time. All money is going out (Feed) & by not processing November & December, no money is coming in. These are our Cold , Dark , Moneyless 60 days of the year.
Hopefully Sherry has put a little away to get us through.

Atkinson Beef is set up at Mullins Market today with Fresh Home Grown Beef.

Cattlemen everywhere are in an uproar over the Foreign Imports controversy. We are just trying to protect our way of Life for the next generation. I am the 4th generation running this farm with two more generations living on this farm.
My hope is that my grandchildren’s grandchildren can live this same life that I live. It is a honorable job that I love.
Our competition is trying to educate people that all beef is not the same ! Especially Hamburger meat ! Most cheap hamburger meat in grocery stores comes from Imported beef. That is a FACT. Most hamburger meat at Fast Food Chains are from imported beef .
It is a fact that a Hamburger is America’s most favorite food.

We just ask : buy SC certified, buy Local & buy beef that has had No growth hormones, No antibiotics & No vaccines.

I love to see a plan that we have been working on for a couple of years finally come together.
We purchased 40 head of Purebred Wangus 2 years ago.
Got their 1st calves (Wangus)last year. We bred them back to Hereford Bulls .
Yesterday, our dream finally came true. Creating Black Baldies with extreme Marbling.
Now it will be another 20 months before we harvest one for Beef. Yes , that will be 4 years from the idea to the proof is in the eating experience.
These calves will only have 1/8 wagyu blood in them but that should be good enough for over 50% Prime Beef.
Atkinson Beef will always try to Create better Beef so you the consumer has a pleasurable eating experience .

As far as the Trump remarks about Importing more Argentina beef. I have come to find out that JBS owns & controls the Argentina packaging plants. This should not surprise anyone that they are involved .
It is all about the Hamburger meat market for cheap hamburger meat for the Fast Food Industry . They are all tied together .
We will not receive any grain fed beef from Argentina . Only the US can produce grain fed from our Corn that brings out the Marbling in our Beef .
Yes , the talk will hurt our cull cow Market , but reality can’t be changed ; we have the fewest cows in the US in the past 75 years . Since 1952.
