Free ‘Impact X Class’ Being Offered to Cultivate Innovation, Solutions From Muncie Community

A collaboration between the City of Muncie, Ball State University’s Entrepreneurship Center, and the In Place Impact Muncie Initiative has resulted in a free class aimed at fostering innovative solutions to make a positive impact on the local community.

Starting Sept. 13, 2022, the In Place Impact Muncie Initiative will begin offering a free 12-week “Impact X class” taught by Christiana Mann, assistant lecturer of hospitality innovation and leadership at Ball State; Mike Martin, a local entrepreneur and artist; and Kory Gipson, Common Market co-owner and community listener.

Though not college accredited, the class will be held on Ball State’s campus. The program, which originated at the College of Charleston’s School of Business, is specifically held at Ball State so the community feels welcome at, and a part of, the University and its beautiful campus.

The class will ultimately help participants develop realistic and meaningful impact-focused innovations to address social, economic, and environmental issues within the Muncie community.

Barry Banks on Brownfield & Solar

A conversation with Barry Banks, founder of Red Tail Conservancy.

I encourage our neighbors, City Council and community leaders to take the time and listen to Barry Banks’ input on solar and brownfields. Barry is the founder of Red Tail Land Conservancy, and his integrity on the environment is unwavering.

I am open to any realistic solutions that anyone else can help make a reality too. My dog in this fight is that my 15 year old nephew, my 65 year old father with health issues, and myself live right beside this place. It must be cleaned up. I have absolutely no business interest in this project.

Jewish AgriCulture Week | Farmer's Footprint

In honor of the actual Plank Brothers (They started and built the building in 1939, their name is still on the building), we're honoring them this Jewish Agriculture Week. The Plank Brothers were Jewish Immigrants from Russia. They launched many great companies out of this building, including Muncie Power Products, Inc!

At the intersection of food and culture exists an invitation to see, feel, and taste the rituals, dimensions, meaning and history of a lineage of people. With that intention in mind, we invite you to a special series dedicated to Jewish AgriCulture. Beyond building a more just and regenerative food....

Local business woman sells homemade soap from goat milk

Check out this cool write up about Erica Markley and her goats 🐐 • She is the local maker of our lovely at Common Market! We help empower makers!!

When Erica Markley’s 9-year-old daughter was born, she knew she didn’t want to expose her child to harmful petroleum byproducts from store-brand soaps that could damage her sensitive skin.

First Wave of American Rescue Plan Funds Distributed to Local Restaurants — Muncie Journal

If you're a local business we truly encourage you to apply! We believe the process is simple, and the goal is to put the money to work in the community now!!

From Mike:
Some good news out of Muncie! I was honored to serve on the restaurant committee. I think this is a great example of how community based solutions can work. This is a federal plan through a democrat administration and a city republican administration working together for real world solutions on Main St! I truly believe a government of the people for the people can function well and serve the community.
I hope this is a start to a new day in America. We have the floor, the world is watching. Can we rise to the challenge at hand, like we always say our grandparents did? Of course, it wasn't easy for them and it won't be easy for us. In the end we have to ask the question, am I part of the problem or part of the solution.
These funds go directly to local business owner immediately. This is the first of several in just the restaurant group alone. The Mayor said the goal here is to get this money into the hands of the community and circulating. This is how I believe we approached it. Very open and transparent and looking to make sure local business owners received these funds. There is a lot more to come, and this is very real and happening for not just restaurants but also all segments of the community. For info go to the City of Muncie site: https://www.cityofmuncie.com/department/division.php...

By Corey Ohlenkamp, Director of Communications, City of Muncie— MUNCIE, Ind. – The City of Muncie is proud to announce that funds for the first seven restaurants to be approved by an independent committee for the City of Muncie’s American Rescue Plan (ARP) have been distributed to help those a...

Just about a year ago... (You can almost hear Fogerty's voice, huh?) This is the way the Plank Brothers property looked a year ago when we bought it! It takes a village! There have literally been 100s of hours of volunteering that has brought this property back to being a positive part of the neighborhood!

We just wanted to take a second and say thanks to Kenneth P Glaub at Dogwood Builders (Our Cardinal Success BNI buddies) for the completion of our kitchen and bathroom buildout! We have finished all inspections and now have our Delaware County Food Permit! This was made possible by our small business ARP Grant through the City of Muncie; along with grants from Main Street America, The Hartford, and 8 Twelve Coalition.

What now? This has taken 7 years of immense sacrifice and focus. You can count on us to be here for the long haul friends. The vision will become clearer going forward, and where things like Plank Brothers Bike Co, Urban Farm & Recycling Center fit in this dream. Our goal was always to do it right this time. 7 years to get it right, was well worth the wait!
Germaine has inspired so many with her work and ideas 💡
