🚀🧡 Three years of DISCOVERY COOKIES🍪👨🏽‍🚀

October is a special month around here! I turned 41 on October 9, and today, October 13, Discovery Cookies turns 3 years old!

Even though Discovery is currently on pause, I couldn’t let this anniversary go by without celebrating and sharing a little bit of what I’ve been up to!

During Fall Break last week, we took a few days to enjoy some family time. We went to Ohio and revisited Columbus (and, of course, our favorite Brazilian restaurant in the whole area) and revisited the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton.

That museum was especially meaningful to me because I got to see so many things that inspired our brand’s name, mascot, and colors. And yes… I even got to dress up as an astronaut! 😂🚀

For my birthday, I also made my own passion fruit and chocolate cake... a fresh, tangy, tropical combination that’s very popular and loved in Brazil. It was the perfect birthday treat!

But for this Discovery Cookies anniversary, I decided to celebrate by bringing some brownie cookies to the NICU team at Ball Hospital. These incredible professionals were among Discovery’s biggest supporters before the pause, and their work has always meant so much to me.

I wish I could celebrate this day by sharing cookies with so many of our wonderful customers who have become such a special part of Discovery’s story. There are so many of you I would love to bake for again! 🧡

I miss baking, I miss my customers, and I miss all the little moments that made Discovery what it is. But I’m still studying, learning, trying new things, and doing my best to stay positive and enjoy this new chapter of my life.

Three years ago, I started Discovery Cookies with a dream, a lot of curiosity, and so much to learn. I never imagined how many wonderful people I would meet along the way or how much this little business would become part of my life.

Thank you for being part of these three years. Whether you ordered cookies, shared a post, recommended Discovery to a friend, or simply cheered me on, you helped make this journey special.

Discovery may be on pause, but this story is still part of me. And I’m holding on to hope for the day I can get back to baking for you again. 🧡🍪🚀

Hi, Muncie! 🧡 It’s been a little quiet around here, so I thought it was time for a little life update - ⚠️ Long post alert! 😂 Grab a coffee, because I have a lot to tell you! ☕🧡

It’s been about a month since I last baked, packed cookies, and took care of my wonderful customers (who were always the reason behind everything I did with Discovery). I loved my work so much that, emotionally, this pause hasn’t always been easy.

But I’ve been doing my best to stay positive and make good use of this unexpected free time. I’ve been going to therapy (yes, actual therapy 😂), I started writing again, and I’ve been studying A LOT.

I’ve always loved writing... it’s actually what led me to study journalism and graduate back in Brazil in 2010... so coming back to it has been really nice. I also had several cooking courses that I had purchased over the years and barely had time to explore while running Discovery. Now I finally have time to really study them, practice, learn, and just enjoy the process without rushing.

And while Indiana is still giving us a little warmth and sunshine, I’ve been riding my bike as much as I can! Last week, my husband and I rode the Cardinal Greenway all the way to Gaston and back. I always love that ride. No rush, just enjoying the scenery, the quiet, and being outside.

Of course, I’ve still been cooking! Just... maybe a little less like a crazy person. 😂 As much as everyone at home happily volunteers to eat all of my experiments, at some point we do have to remember that we’re supposed to be healthy.

Some of my recent kitchen highlights were Brazilian esfihas, filled with beef seasoned with lots (and I mean LOTS!) of lemon, and another batch with creamy chicken; homemade gnocchi with pork ragù, which turned out incredible; and something I’m especially excited about: pão de queijo (yes, again 😅).

After more than THREE YEARS of testing different recipes, cheeses, proportions, temperatures, and techniques, I think I can finally say it: I have my final pão de queijo recipe. 🥹🇧🇷 I finally have the real, beautiful, cheesy Brazilian pão de queijo I’ve been trying to recreate here in Muncie, exactly the way I wanted it.

And because apparently I can’t go too long without brigadeiro 😂, I also made Brazilian chocolate and coconut brigadeiros, but this time, no rolling, decorating, or making dozens of perfect little balls. I cooked them a little softer and we ate them straight from the bowls with spoons while enjoying the afternoon together. This is actually a very common way to eat brigadeiro in Brazil, and honestly... it’s just as delicious with a lot less work.

But more than anything, I miss people.
Life can get pretty quiet when you’re an immigrant, your kids are getting older, and suddenly you’re not working anymore. Discovery was much more than a job and a source of income for me. It became one of the places where I found community. Through cookies, I got to meet people, talk to people, and experience so much of the kindness that Muncie has shown me since I arrived here.

I miss baking for you. I miss your messages. I miss seeing familiar names pop up with another order. I miss our little conversations. I miss all of it.🧡

But October is coming, and I have a couple of very special reasons to celebrate. My birthday is October 9, and on October 13, Discovery Cookies would be turning THREE! 🥹🍪🚀

So yes, I’m already thinking about my birthday cake, Brazilian sweets, and our little celebration here at home. Discovery may be on pause right now, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to let its third birthday go by unnoticed. Three years of cookies, learning, crazy days in the kitchen, wonderful customers, friendships, awards, mistakes, accomplishments, and so many memories deserve to be celebrated. And so does another year of life. 🧡

Discovery is still on pause, and I’m still not accepting orders. But I’m here. I’m learning, cooking, writing, riding my bike, making plans, and hoping I’ll be able to come back to all of you before too long.

For now, I’m going to celebrate everything that brought me here, and everything that may still be ahead.

Two weeks into our temporary pause… and yes, I miss Discovery Cookies. A lot. 🧡

I miss my cookies, the busy days, the amazing smell coming from the kitchen, answering your messages, and having something I poured so much of myself into every single day.

But I haven’t been sitting around feeling sad! These past two weeks have actually been VERY productive. I’ve deep-cleaned and organized pretty much every corner of the house (finally! 😂), worked on business accounting, taken care of things that had been waiting forever to get done… and, of course, I’ve been COOKING!

🇧🇷 Brazilian Feijoada — A classic Brazilian black bean and pork stew, served with rice, farofa and vinaigrette. One of those meals that tastes like home to me.

🧀 Pão de Queijo (Brazilian Cheese Bread) — I tested a new cheese blend this time and WOW! This was probably the closest I’ve gotten to the flavor I’ve been looking for here in the U.S. Still a few little adjustments to make, but we’re getting there!

🍊 Homemade Orange Cake — Made with real oranges and something I hadn’t eaten in years. It was my first time making it myself... and the entire cake disappeared the same day. With coffee? Perfection.

🧈 Roasted Garlic & Basil Butter — I’ve become slightly obsessed with making flavored homemade butter, and this is the winner so far. Absolutely delicious with crackers or toast.

🍮 Brazilian Caramelized Rice Pudding — Traditionally we eat it with cinnamon... but apparently I had no limits that day and made a salted caramel sauce to go with it.

🥕 Brazilian Carrot Cake — A Brazilian classic with chocolate topping and one of my boys’ favorites. Another cake that didn’t make it past 24 hours.

🇧🇷 Coxinhas — I tried a cassava-based dough that has been going viral in Brazil, filled with traditional creamy chicken. Honestly, the BEST coxinhas I’ve ever made. The crunch was unbelievable... and yes, there will be evidence in the Stories. 😂

🍕 And then there was the pizza... — attempted a long-fermentation Neapolitan-style dough. Great flavor. The result? Not even close to what I wanted. I was so annoyed I didn’t take a single picture. 😂 Back to the drawing board!

So that’s a little peek at what I’ve been doing during my first two weeks away from Discovery. I miss baking cookies for all of you more than I can say, but I’m staying busy, learning, experimenting and, apparently, feeding my family very well in the process.

I’ll keep sharing a little bit of what comes out of my kitchen while we wait for the day I can turn those ovens back on for Discovery Cookies.

For now, this is goodbye!

Today, August 30th, marks the end of our last baking day before Discovery Cookies takes its temporary pause.

There are no words big enough to thank every single person who has supported me throughout these almost three years. Thank you for trusting my work, for welcoming my cookies into your homes, for recommending them to your families and friends, and for believing in what I created here in my kitchen.

And especially over these past two months, thank you for your incredible kindness, patience, understanding, and support while I’ve been navigating a situation that made this pause necessary. Your messages, cards, kind words, and encouragement have meant more to me than you will ever know. You made this difficult moment so much easier to carry.

But I want you to know something: I’m okay. I’m sad to step away from Discovery, of course, but I’m also looking forward to having some time to breathe, study, learn, experiment, and make plans.

I have so many ideas and dreams for Discovery Cookies that I hope I’ll be able to bring to life when the time is right. And while I’m away from selling cookies, I certainly won’t be away from the kitchen.

I’ll be cooking, testing recipes, developing cookie recipes, creating new products, learning new things... basically doing what I love and what I do best. 🧡

And I’m not deleting or putting this page on hold. I’ll keep Discovery Cookies right here, and I’ll be sharing updates and, at least once a month, some of the food and recipes I’m making along the way.

So this isn’t really goodbye. It’s see you later.

I hope that, before too long, I’ll be back here, turning on my oven, making a mess in my kitchen, and baking cookies for all of you again.

Thank you for almost three incredible years.

A little update about the extra cookies I mentioned yesterday!

I know some of you were waiting for my post this morning to see what extra cookies would be available today. I’m so sorry, but it turns out there won’t be any extras after all!

Quite a few wonderful customers messaged me ahead of time asking to reserve extras, so I made a list and prioritized those who had already reached out. Everything I had available ended up being reserved before I even had a chance to post the list!

So, unfortunately, I won’t have any extra cookies to offer today. I’m sorry we couldn’t accommodate everyone who was hoping to get some. My list was actually looking pretty good yesterday… but you guys got to it first!

I also ended up using every bit of my safety margin, so now I’m crossing my fingers and baking these orders very, very carefully today! 😅

It’s an absolute honor to be baking for so many of our wonderful customers this Friday... our last Friday with Discovery Cookies, at least for now.

After almost three years of baking cookies for you on Fridays, I truly hope I’ll be back soon enough to celebrate another National Treat Yourself Day with all of you.

Last chance for Discovery Cookies before our pause! Please, read the full post:

We’ve had quite a few lovely customers asking if they can buy any extra cookies from our final week of baking... and yes, there will be a few!

When I prepare pre-orders, I always make a small number of extra cookies as a safety margin, just in case something unexpected happens in the kitchen. 😅 So I may end up with a few extra cookies in some flavors! They won’t be many, and some flavors may have none at all. But tomorrow morning, around 9am, I’ll post a list of whatever extras are available for pickup or delivery TOMORROW, Friday, August 28th.

❗️Please keep in mind that these extras are my safety margin for the pre-orders already scheduled. If an unexpected issue comes up, I may need to use some of them to replace cookies from a scheduled order. Because of this, a reserved extra could become unavailable later if I need it to fulfill a pre-order❗️

I’ll reserve them in the order messages are received and update the list as each order is claimed.

And the extras from Saturday and Sunday? Those are already spoken for by my boys at home 🧡

So if you’d like one last chance to grab some Discovery Cookies before our pause, keep an eye on the page tomorrow morning!

Not every Discovery Cookies order looks exactly the same... they are all unique, actually! Some customers prefer their cookies to be individually sleeved so they can share them with friends, family, coworkers, or whoever gets lucky enough to be around them. 😂

And honestly, the work in the kitchen can get pretty busy, so I don’t always have time to take pictures of the orders before they leave.

But every now and then, a box comes together so beautifully that I just have to stop and take a picture. 🥹🧡

These are some of the boxes I’ve managed to photograph over the past few weeks here in our kitchen. Every one of them was prepared with the same care, and I still love seeing how different each order can look.

I’m already organizing everything and getting ready for a very busy week of baking. It will be such a pleasure to serve all of our wonderful customers one last time before our temporary pause. 🥹

⏰ Orders must be placed by 7 PM TODAY, SUNDAY THE 23RD!

We’ll be baking your pre-orders throughout the week, Monday through Sunday, from 12pm to 6pm, for scheduled pickups and deliveries.

After 7 PM, I’ll be closing the order list so I can organize our final production, ingredients, and packaging before we pause.
