What’s Munchin, Muncie?!

Today we tried Parlor Doughnuts!
We tried their most popular donuts that were recommended by the staff: French toast, Honey Glazed, and S’mores!
We also tried the avocado toast and their açaí bowl.

The S’mores doughnut was good but VERY sweet. If you aren’t a die hard sweets person, this might not be for you. It’s very rich and chocolatey and the marshmallows on top give a nice fluffy contrast of texture to balance out the crunch of the doughnut. S’mores I’ll give 7.5 out of 10.
French toast doughnut was good 👍🏼 didnt really taste like French toast though. Just tasted like a sweet donut. Really nice texture, super fluffy on the inside and a nice crunch on the outside. 6/10 for the French toast. Good, just didn’t taste like French toast.
Honey glazed doughnut: this is the closest thing they had to a classic glazed doughnut. A lot of their doughnuts seem to be speciality, so you won’t fine any simple doughnuts like plain, or glazed, like you would at say Concannons or Dunkin’. You can definitely taste the honey in this! 8/10 this is my favorite out of the three we tried.

Avocado toast: 8.5/10
This is an avocado spread on sourdough with a hard boiled egg and seasoning on top. I quite enjoyed this, much higher quality avocado toast compared to Dunkin’ and StarBucks. The seasoning went really well with the egg and avocado.
Açaí Bowl: this had A LOT in it! Açaí base with peanut butter, banana, strawberry’s, coconut, chocolate chips, granola, and goji berries. This wa a bit much, I don’t think I will try it again honestly. The açaí base was very good but between the peanut butter
, granola, and chocolate, it was too sweet. I also think this is a premaid so I’m not sure if you can custom order them and take away/add anything to it. I’ll give this a 6.5/10

We spent roughly $40 for all of this and two drinks.

If you’d like to give them a try today they’re open till 4pm! And open 6:30am-6:30pm Monday throuh Saturday.
Location: 909 W McGalliard Rd. Muncie, IN, 47303

**EDIT** The manager of this food truck did confirm that they hand cut their fries and they offer salt that you can put on your food yourself along with other condiments!

What’s Munchin, Muncie?! Today we tried some DELICIOUS chicken on a stick, fries, and a walking taco from Out Laws Deep Fried Chicken! They’re out on Family Dollar on Madison St today, tomorrow, and Saturday!

The chicken on a stick is two all white meat chicken tenders that are hand breaded and deep fried to crispy golden brown perfection! The chicken was perfectly crispy and quite flavorful! Definitely 10/10 🍗 😋

Now silly me forgot to ask, but based on how the fries are cut and how fresh tasting they were, I’m almost 100% positive they hand cut their own potatoes. These were lightly crispy and they do not salt their food to be mindful of customers that can’t intake a lot of sodium. I like my fries crispy and salty so these were a 6/10 for me. If you don’t mind a fluffier, thicker cut fry and can do without the salt, these fries are for you!

The walking taco was also good. Honestly nothing too crazy, tastes like a normal WT. still good nonetheless and I enjoyed it! 8/10.

This was also affordable for the amount of food we got! Roughly $40 for 3 chickens sticks, the fries, the walking taco, and 3 cans of soda.

Eat local, support local, and try some Out Laws Deep Fried Chicken this week! 🍗 🍟 🌮 ❤️😋

Whats Munchin, Muncie!? Today we’re reviewing Jersey Mikes! We tried their cold and hot subs. For cold we tried the Club Sub, and for our hot option we tried the Big Kahuna chicken cheese steak!

Before we get into the review of the food I’d just like to give the staff of Jersey Mikes a huge shout out, especially Allison! Allison warmly greeted us as soon as we walked in and happily explained the menu to us and gave us suggestions. The staff as a whole was very polite and took great care in handling our food. One of the staff members even checked on us half way through our meal asking how the food was tasting and if we needed anything. The service here was honestly the best I’ve had from a franchise restaurant in a long time! Service and cleanliness 10/10!

First up for review: The Club Sub. This sand which features turkey, ham, provolone cheese, apple wood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. They have a delicious olive oil blend you can add to any sandwhich so I added that as well. For bread I chose the Parmesan and rosemary. (You can choose between that, white or wheat.) While this isn’t the best club I’ve had, it’s still solid sandwich and I’d say this comes to a close second. The bacon was crispy and crunchy, not soggy at all. The mayo was smooth and creamy and complimented the meats and provolone very well. The meat was fresh and thinly sliced wich I very much enjoyed. They also slice their meat and cheese right in front of you, and you can see them grilling the hot ingredients fresh for every order! Definitely don’t have to worry about your food not being fresh here! My only critique with this sandwhich is there was not much bacon, so there was not as much crispness or saltiness that bacon gives to a good club. If you order this, definitely ask for extra bacon. Overall, I was very pleased with this sandwich and rate it a 8.5 out of 10!

Now for the Big Kahuna: you can choose between steak or chicken for your meat (we chose chicken) and it comes with grilled onion, peppers, mushroom, and extra white American cheese. We got the Parmesan rosemary bread for this as well. The chicken was juicy and tender, generously put on the sandwhich! The veggies were crispy and not over cooked and added a unique and delicious flavor profile to the sandwich over all. Only critiqué for this sandwich is the cheese. I personally don’t like American and will definitely sub out for provolone next time I order. Over all this sandwich was a 8/10!

For drinks we tried the Stubborn Soda Agave vanilla cream soda and the root beer. The root beer wasn’t anything crazy, taste similar to Mug Root Beer. The cream soda though!! Best cream soda I’ve ever had, hands down. Very strong but not over powering vanilla flavor, the agave gave it a natural sweetness that tied the soda together beautifully. Root Beer: 6/10 (not bad, just not original) Cream Soda: 8.5/10

Definitely a must try spot for lunch or dinner!

The club sub price: $10.25 (a la carte regular size)
Big Kahuna Chicken Cheese Steak: $17.65 (a la carte giant size)

WHAT IS UP OUR FELLOW MUNCHSONIANS?!!!

Cody here with a stellar review for you (Samantha and I did eat from them twice before posting because we accidentally ordered identical pastas the first time 😂), of a new and tasty restaurant in town called La Casa (Restaurant And Bar)!

Located in the Heart of BSU (or maybe the liver?)
*at 1529 W University Ave. Muncie, IN 47303*

La Casa Is an absolute taste of heaven, Italy, your Grandma’s kitchen… you get the point. I want to first touch on the Alfredo…. And I can’t stress this enough… this Alfredo is to die for….(I’d gladly flatline for a plate right now *jk*)…. The Alfredo is homemade the noodles are cooked to perfection (I did a create-a-pasta and picked spaghetti noodles) it was just downright sinfully good. If I could afford to live off of nothing but this Alfredo I absolutely would.

Munch Score - 10/10

Their pizza is very fresh and different from anything else offered in Muncie or nearby, authentic ingredients, handmade and articulated doughs and sauce absolutely bring this culinary masterpiece to life. I myself thoroughly enjoyed the texture of the dough as the crust was just the right amount of crunch and the underneath folded with ease. Samantha and I sprung for the QUATTRO FORMAGGI which is a Four Chesse Pizza with Mozzarella, Gorgonzola, Ricotta and Parmeasan. It was absolutely wonderful.

Munch Score 9/10

We also tried some Pepperoni Panini’s they are similar to Little Caesar’s Crazy Puffs but obviously much better. They had the same consistency as the pizza with a balance of crispness and softness in the right places. Very decadent and savory and a wonderful appetizer.

Munch Score 9/10

We tried some Ravioli Al Roma also, which is homemade Ravioli stuffed with truffle infused ricotta cheese and served in a light cream sauce. It was pretty superb, Samantha really liked it more than myself but that is only due to personal preferences the flavor and consistency was good.

Munch Score 8/10

During our 2nd try of La Casa we also tried another pizza. A pepperoni and cheese pizza with stuffed crust. And holy moly cannoli it was amazing. I am very simple and love just a good cheesy pepperoni pizza. And this pizza delivered! Melty and gooey cheese paired with crisp pepperoni and a mozzarella filled crust. This pizza was the best pizza I’ve ever had in my 33+ years of existence.

Munch score 11/10 (I love improper fractions)

I strongly encourage anyone in the Muncie area to check out this absolute juggernaut of a restaurant, and to implore their minds and to give their tastebuds the gratification they deserve.

Keep Munchin Muncie!

What’s Munchin, Muncie?! WE ARE BACK BABY WITH A FRESH NEW REVIEW FOR YOU! Today we tried Mochinut that just opened up here in Muncie, Indiana! We tried their mochi nut donuts: churro and caramel, Korean corn dogs: hot Cheeto half and half and original half and half, and of course, boba! We tried the berry cherry lemonade and the brown sugar milk tea boba.

Before we get into the actual review just want to give everyone a heads up: This place just opened yesterday so if you go today or within the next few days, expect it to be busy and wait awhile to place your order and receive it. This is also a carry out spot, not really dine-in. They have a couple of tables but be prepared to take your order home incase they aren’t available.

Now let’s get into the food! Mochi donuts are not your typical donut and will be quite different from say a Concannons or Dunkin’ donut. They are made of glutinous rice flour and are actually less calories than a regular donut! The rice flour also makes for a chewy and airy texture. The churro and caramel donuts were both absolutely delicious! The outside has a slight crispness and the inside was the perfect level of chewyness and airy. The icing was also very good! Very rich flavor and melts in your mouth. 10/10 for the donuts 🍩

The Korean corn dogs are all beef hotdogs, wrapped in mozzarella cheese and breaded in rice flour. They are usually drizzled with ketchup, mustard, or mayo but Mochinut gives the option for “yum yum sauce” or a cheese sauce to dip in. You can either get “original” with hot dog and cheese all the way through, “half and half” which is half hot dog and half cheese, or “original” which is just cheese. We both tried the half and half, one with original breading and one with hot Cheeto breading. The rice flour breading was sweet and had a nice crunch! Hot Cheeto breading added a nice kick along with the sweetness of the rice flour. The cheese was melty and the hotdog within had a really interesting flavor. To me, it tasted more like kobasi sausage than a hotdog. I very much preferred the yum yum sauce over the cheese sauce for dipping. Overall, these were 8/10 and will definitely be back soon to get more!

The boba: honestly nothing too crazy, the flavor and quality was the same as other boba places we have in Muncie. Overall 6.5/10 for the boba.

Give Mochinut a try for yourself and let us know what you think!

What’s Munchin, Muncie?! The other day for dinner we tried Los Plebes Mexican Seafood & grill #2! A newer Mexican and seafood restaurant here in Muncie! Here’s all of what we tried:

Sides/ appetizers: crab sushi rolls (I forgot the actual name for these on the menu I am so sorry 😭) elote, and chips and queso.

Entrees: Enchilada supremas, tacos de birria, Tacos El Pastor, Giant Taco.

Service: 10/10 our server was friendly, very attentive, happily recommended menu items to us and brought us refills and to go containers promptly without us having to ask.

Cleanliness of restaurant: 10/10 very clean and vibrant looking when you first walk in, dining room appeared to be clean. Our table was clean and not at all sticky. Also no fishy smell (always something you want to be mindful of when you are going to a seafood restaurant, especially if they serve sushi).

Appetizer rating: Our server did let us know they have both imitation and real crab meat for their sushi. We ordered real crab. It’s a crab roll, breaded tempura style with minced crab and avocado on top, drizzled in eel sauce and served with green onion and shredded carrot for garnish. I’ll give this a 8/10 crab was very fresh tasting and did not at all taste fishy. The avocado was nice and fresh as well. I didn’t care for the eel sauce and the breading was not as crispy as I would have liked it to be.
The elote was very good! 10/10 fresh corn with that cheesy and creamy flavor you know and love from elote! 🌽 ❤️
The chips + queso was good, but nothing special. The same that you can from puerta or any other Mexican place in Muncie. 8/10

Entrée rating: Tacos El Pastor was absolutely delicious! 10/10 These are pork tacos with grilled pineapple, fresh cilantro, and fresh onion. The pork was seasoned perfectly and the pineapple paired very nicely with it. I never had pineapple with tacos before, it definitely complimented the pork well and made for a uniquely and delicious tasting taco. if you’re worried about it being too sweet from the pineapple, don’t. The onion and cilantro balance it out perfectly. Tacos de birria 10/10. The tacos themselves were not too greasy, the tortillas were perfectly crispy, super cheesy on the inside! Yes the dipping sauce was greasy but it’s literally the fat from the meat so, there’s really no way for birria to be non greasy. If you’re not a fan of grease just don’t order these. Enchilada Supremas: 8/10 these are four enchiladas: bean, cheese, chicken, and beef. Amazing flavor and texture, didn’t care for the mountain of lettuce served with it. Next time I will order these no lettuce. Giant taco : 10/10. Best taco I’ve ever tasted and it was graciously packed with ground beef, sour cream, and wonderfully tasting cheese.

Skip the chain restaurant this week and give this local a try instead! Cheers, Muncie! 🍻

Hey Muncie, it’s been awhile! Sam here with another tasty food review for you all. 😁 Last week Cody and I tried Park Restaurant! This is a family style restaurant in New Castle, IN.

We tried three appetizers: Potato skins, fried pickles, and Mac and cheese bites.

We also tried their skillet fried chicken and rib entrées, with mac and cheese, mashed potato’s and gravy, and sautéed mushrooms for our sides.

Dessert: Sugar cream pie 🥧

The appetizer: The potato skins were okay. I’d give them a 6/10. The skins were not hollowed out enough and there was still a lot of potato inside, so it was basically a baked potato rather than a potato skin. The bacon and cheese on them was very good and greasy! Now I don’t mind greasy food especially if I’m eating bacon. But if you’re not a fan of a lot of grease, I would order no bacon or light bacon. The fried pickles were phenomenal! Solid 9/10 breading was fluffy, crispy, and well seasoned. Can definitely tell these are made in house! The mac and cheese bites were okay. 5/10. The breading also had that made in house flavor and texture, but the mac and cheese inside you can tell as soon as you bite into it it’s just Kraft. I’m kinda bummed they use box mac for these, especially since they make their own from scratch.

The skillet fried chicken and ribs were delightful! Definitely 10/10 Chicken was crispy and well seasoned on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside 😋 Ribs were fall of the bone tender and the bbq sauce was very tasty. Mashed potato’s were okay. 7.5/10 Very smooth and the gravy on them was good as well. Could’ve used some salt and pepper, they tasted a bit bland even with the gravy. The sautéed mushrooms were excellent! I will say though if you are not a fan of mushrooms I would pass on these. They definitely still have the mushroom taste even though they were seasoned. I absolutely love mushroom so I didn’t mind at all.

The sugar cream pie was absolutely delicious. Best pie I’ve ever had honestly. It was served cold which is how I like to eat my pies especially if it’s sugar cream. It was thick and creamy and rich!

Restaurant was also very clean and the service was great! Overall I’d would rate our visit at Park a 7/10. We will definitely be back to try some more of their menu items! Skip the chain restaurant and give this local place a try instead!

What’s Munchin, Muncie?! The other day we tried The Cafe at the Crossing! This is a local brunch place here in Muncie on West Jackson.

We tried the soup flight, monte cristo sandwhich,
and the breakfast BLT with cheesy potatoes.

The soup flight is a soup sampler served with a yeast roll and your choice of toppings if you want any for your soup. You can try three of any of their soups for that day. We tried the ham and hash brown soup, chicken noodle, and a dill pickle potato soup!

All 3 of the soups were very good and served hot and fresh. Chicken and noodle tasted home made. Nice and doughy noodles which I like. The ham and hash brown soup and the dill pickle potato soup was good but I think it would’ve been much better if they made them chowders instead of soups. Soups that have potatoes I like to be alittle thicker, not a fan of super thin watered down broth. But nonetheless it was still good. Overall the soup flight was 8/10

The breakfast BLT is a rise and shine twist on a classic BLT! It’s made with a scrambled egg, bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, aioli, and avocado! This was served on whole wheat toast. I did not specify what kind of bread I wanted so I’m not sure if they have any other options besides this. The sandwich was decent, but honestly coudlve been better. The bacon was thick and crispy and the lettuce and tomato were fresh and not at all soggy or wilted. It was dry despite the aioli and there wasn’t very much avocado on it at all. I would definitely try this sandwich again but I think I would order it with an over easy egg instead of scrambled, and maybe extra avocado too. Overall it was a 7.8/10

The Monte Cristo Sandwich is a common dish that many brunch places offer. It’s basically a grilled ham and cheese made with french toast.
Now I’ve had this sandwich at quite a few different places but Cafe At The Crossing’s version definitely takes the cake! The French toast was fluffy and crispy at the ends, and the ham had both a salty and sweet, almost maple flavor. The cheese paired with the flavor of the ham quite nicely. The menu says that it is served with strawberry jam but I don’t remember ever getting any or tasting it on the sandwich. It honestly didn’t need it though, it was great by itself! 9.5/10 definitely the best out of everything we tried.

Both of our sandwiches came with cheesy potatoes which were absolutely delicious! The potatoes are shedded and the cheese is baked on top. It honestly reminded of me of a really good baked Mac and cheese, but with potatoes! Now I made the mistake of adding ketchup and salt to these before tasting, only because that’s how I’ve eaten cheesy potatoes all my life, and I 100% regret doing it. The potatoes were so good on their own puttting anything on them will hoenstly throw the flavor off. Cheesy potatoes were 9/10 definitely a must try when you visit!

Overall we had a good experience at Cafe At The Crossing and would most definitely eat there again soon! Don’t forget to give the chain restaurants a break this week and try out this wonderful local eatery instead! Cheers, Muncie. 🍻

What’s Munchin, Muncie?! Sam here with a brand new food review for you! 😁🍕🌮Yesterday we hung out with Blessed Wiccs LLC at their October Bash event and tried Neighborhood Pizza food truck and Tacos De la torre!

From Neighborhood Pizza we tried their 7” pepperoni pizza with extra cheese. From Tacos De la torre we tried their carnitas tacos.

The pizza was decent and I enjoyed it, however, I’ve definitely had better pizza other places. It wasn’t at all bad, just your standard pizza. The crust was pretty thin which I didn’t mind I actually prefer thin crust if anything! The cheese was good and greasy and the pepperoni on it was crispy and salty. The sauce tastes very similar to Home Run Inn’s pizza sauce. Which I actually really liked because that my was my favorite pizza when I was a kid so it brought back some pizza nostalgia. Overall I’d rate it a 7.8/10 definitely give them a try if you see them out!

The carnitas tacos from Taco De la torre were amazing!!! 8.5/10 best tacos I’ve ever had in Muncie! These are pork tacos with corn tortillas served with fresh cilantro and onion. If you can’t eat pork or dont prefer it they do have steak and chicken as well for protein options. You can choose to get red and/or green sauce on the side as well and limes and cucumber slices. The meat was so tender and flavorful and the red and green sauces added the perfect punch of flavor! I also liked the cucumber served with the tacos, the coolness from them helped tone down the heat from the red sauce.

Definitely give these guys a try if you see them out and about! And as always, give the chain restaurants a break and eat local! Cheers Muncie. 🍻
