Beautiful fall day on Burton Farm 💙

Happy Friday!

I was scared today.
I was scared to get on, scared to walk out the yard because I had a bad ride the day before. One bad ride, and it made me scared.
I didn’t know why. I’ve had 1000 bad rides. I’ve had 1000 falls. I’ve broken bones and bruised my pride on countless occasions, but today I was scared.
Why? Because confidence is fragile. It takes months and years to build and seconds to lose and yet we are so careless with it.
When we get on a horse, we wear a hat to protect our head. We wear body protectors, gloves, boots...
We pay so much attention to protecting ourselves physically, we forget that our minds are not invincible, and our confidence certainly is not.
Your bank of confidence needs regular deposits, not just from others... but from you. Self confidence is the most valuable currency in life.
When you go to get on, and you hesitate, you falter and you start to ask yourself “can I do this?”, chances are, your account is almost empty.
Every time you laugh and say “oh no, I’m no good” or “so and so is 10x better than me”, you make a withdrawal from that account, and before you know it, your account is empty and you’re scared to get on.
But every time you say “I’m really pleased with how that went” or “I think I rode that really well”, your balance increases.
We need to learn to give ourselves a break, pat ourselves on the back and allow ourselves to feel proud of where we are - after all, most of the time we’ve worked bloody hard to get there!
Recognising your strengths is just as important as recognising your weaknesses. Never allow yourself or anyone else to empty that account.
Confidence is valuable, don’t bankrupt yourself.
What a start to a beautiful day!

Beautiful rainbow over the farm tonight!
Maryn was my first winner of horse trivia! She stumped me with facts each week on a different horse breed and was the first one to get to five points! Hope you enjoy your milkshake, and good ride today! Jennifer Jayne Metzler
This year fair looked a little different than usual, but we are so glad we were able to participate. We had lots of challenges, lots of learning and so much fun! I’m so proud of our horses and the riders for the work they put in to making this year successful!
How Sweet now has its own page! Stop by the barn to pick up a box of caramels or check out their page to order cupcakes and cookies for your next event!
Sky lanterns are certainly beautiful floating up in the air, and I know they seem like a great way to celebrate. However, please think twice before you send one up- you have no idea where it will come down. It was still burning when it landed, as grass is scorched underneath. This landed in a horse pasture- a fire, choke and injury trap all rolled up in one. Not to mention landing next to barns full of hay.
Please think before you send one of these up into the sky. Luckily this one was spotted and removed and no animals were injured and no property damage was done. This time ....You could be costing someone everything.
This is not the first time we have seen this occur and just last week a neighboring barn had one land within feet of a stacked hay wagon.
Luckily for us, the sender of this lantern put down their telephone number on it as a fun way to track it. We will be personally calling and thanking them for this fun experience...
I have been having so much fun over the last several weeks doing trivia with my lesson students. Each week we learn a new horse breed, horse color, and horse body part. They are each sent home with the task to look up a fact about the horse breed we learned about. The next week, if they can identify the body part learned the last week, they can ask me a Trivia question in an attempt to stump me. If they do so, they get a point. 5 points and they get a milkshake.
I have learned so much about specific race winners, rare equine diseases and female jockeys...I’m so impressed with each of them and their Trivia they have brought. Today, Erin took the prize as she not only came with a Trivia question, but a 2 page essay! I was floored! Excellent work to Erin and I learned something new! I’ve attached the essay here, if you’d like to too!
Great job Erin!! ( DeLisa Nicole Kelley)
Beautiful day for a ride 😎

Introducing Miss Nutmeg- born around 6:00 this morning. We thought Sugar was never going to have this baby, but here she is.
Side note: Jack was really hoping for a bull calf and had many Star Wars names picked out.
We are thrilled we have a “Nutmeg” and not a “Darth Vader” in the pasture. ( Happy May 4th!)
